I had another dress fitting this past Saturday while my mom was visiting me in NYC. My dress was made for me, so the only thing that needs any alteration is the hem. I still haven’t bought my shoes, but I have always thought I would go with a mid-sized heel (2 – 2.75 inches) because I am just under 6 foot and Cotton Dude is only a couple inches taller than me. I don’t need the height to feel good, and I’d love to be comfortable all night! I thought I could commit to the heel height and then find the appropriate shoe, but the ladies who do the fittings refuse to hem my dress until I have my shoes…
1. Pretty personalized shoes. Simple bridal shoes + velvet ribbon = vintage love! ![]() From snippetandink.blogspot.com 2. Discussions of non-bridesmaids at apracticalwedding.com. I have a crack team of non-bridesmaids, and my sister will be my single maid standing up there with me.
When it came down to wedding shoes, I noticed that a lot of brides were really making a fashion statement (remember Dahlia Bud’s post?). Let’s just say, “Goodbye White, Hello Color!” ![]() From swsmag.net ![]() From coryparris.com
Gift for your maids. Standard right? Monogramed bag, framed picture, gift certificate, and a variety of other things they will most likely never use. I wanted to do a Portland themed gift – something they would ACTUALLY use. And then it dawned on me – from the homepage of threaddesign.com:
I have no problem saying that I think I have the most amazing shoes for my wedding. I chose my dress around my shoes, and my shoes cost me twice as much as my dress. I suppose that’s not saying a lot, as I only spent $160 on my dress. Don’t get me wrong, I love my dress- it fits me and my personality perfectly. But, mostly I love how amazing my shoes look with my dress. Truth be told, I picked out my shoes soon after I got engaged. Thinking I had plenty of time, I held off buying them and THEN they were featured in a full page spread in a very popular wedding magazine. I happened to see the page flipping through bridal magazines at my local market. I went home, got online- and they were SOLD OUT. MY shoes=SOLD OUT.
In my normal every day life, I gaze lovingly at shoes of all colors. I love when Jcrew adds a new style. Give me heels, give me patterns, and give me comfort. Problem is, I’m way too practical to buy shoes that don’t go with either the brown or black parts of my wardrobe. We are brutal on shoes here in the city, and I cannot imagine spending $500+ on a pair of shoes that would have to walk over subway grates, intentionally miss cracks in the sidewalk, and stand up to my lack of really taking good care of anything. When it came to finding wedding shoes, I knew I wanted different. Inspired by this: ![]() Photo from with--this--ring.blogspot.com
Poppy Dude always complains about my slow and wobbly walk when I’m in heels, and seems to have a hard time understanding just how uncomfortable and scary heels can be. Keeping this in mind, and the fact that I tend to trip when in heels, I decided to wear flats for my wedding. In a long dress, no one would see them anyway. I tried to be logical. I really did. But then I found the perfect shoes from Pedro Garcia. I think it was destiny. They had little buds on them, which went with my subtle flower theme, and they were from Spain, like Poppy Dude.
