There are Beads of Sweat on my Forehead

January 20th, 2010 by

I just got back to NYC from a weekend of wedding planning in Delray Beach, FL with my mom. It was…. stressful…and COLD. I had been looking for a short break from the winter chill, but got 35 degree temps down south. Thankfully, the afternoon of my arrival was beautiful and I got to visit again with the 2 giant palm tress under which we will say our vows (still left to be written).

wedding destination wedding,

My mission down in Delray was to find a rehearsal dinner location, and to meet with all the vendors I have selected from afar. Mostly, I am happy to report, I feel like I got a lot done on my 3-day trip. But there are still lingering questions that are obstacles in our planning (such as still no clarity about the rehearsal).

My Reoccuring Nightmare

January 13th, 2010 by

I keep have wedding nightmares and though the obstacles presented in each dream do indeed vary (from missing wedding gowns to raw food on plates), in each scenario I run into this one rather significant problem:

I am standing at the back of the lawn about to walk down the aisle and I realize, at that moment, that we forgot to write the ceremony. AGGHHHH!  Since my Brother is scheduled to officiate for us, who has no ministry background, we are creating the ceremony from scratch. If we were to “forget” this little detail, we’d have a big problem up there at the alter under the palm trees.

Help me fill this page. Please?

I figured in order to stop the madness nightmares, I should just get on with it and start writing the ceremony. Which I did 10 minutes ago, and yet already I am here blogging about it. Why? I will admit it: I am procrastinating.

Organizing is a Good Thing

January 11th, 2010 by

My friends think I’m crazy when it comes to organizing some things. But it’s a trait I don’t think I will ever try to change. So as expected, I try to organize my wedding planning as much as I can. Here’s a glimpse of how I organize my planning:

- MS Excel file
- printed and filed in a binder

Making the Most of It

January 5th, 2010 by

In about a week I am heading down with my Mom to Florida, where we are having our May destination wedding. This may be my last shot at on-site planning before heading down the week prior to the wedding in 5 months, so I am anxious to make the most of my trip down south. This is my Mom’s first visit to our wedding location, so I am eager to show her around as well.  Delray Beach is such a lovely little town, I am really excited to check it out again!

Side Note: Do you ever stop to think about how you would plan a wedding without the internet? AMAZING how much we’ve come to depend on this resource.

Personalizing the Rehearsal Dinner

December 30th, 2009 by

I was lucky enough to have a mother-in-law that I completely trusted to do the entire rehearsal dinner.  I actually told her I wanted it to be a surprise – because I knew she would make it perfect.   I wanted to share some of the little details because I think these are important parts of the wedding.  It’s the little things we remember and also get to take with us as souvenirs.

Color Crisis

December 15th, 2009 by

Crisis #1…I can’t make up my mind on our colors!  With all the beautiful colors to choose from when planning a beach wedding it really makes it hard to decide. I could go with sky, water or earth on this one!

My first inclination was to go with the colors of the sunset since our wedding will take place at that beautiful time.  I was imagining amazing hues of canary, peach, coral and tangerine much like this image from Martha Stewart.

Designating the Destination: Part 2

December 8th, 2009 by

I am happy to report that Dogwood Dude and I found every single one of our parameters when searching for our destination wedding! The Key Largo Grande Resort & Beach Club is an hour from Miami Airport, budget friendly for us and our guests (especially for those Hilton Rewards Members), has two amazing 3rd floor rooms overlooking the ocean in case of rain, has a beach covered in arching hammock trees….and PLENTY to do! The funny thing is that so many people ask me how we chose Key Largo, which seems so remote to most, and I always tell them…we just had five parameters!

Here are some pics!

Thinking Back to the Engagement

December 7th, 2009 by

During the wedding planning process, it’s easy to get caught up in the little details of the wedding – “this flower or that flower”, “which centerpiece looks better?”, “should we serve crab puffs or crab cakes?” That’s not to say those decisions aren’t important, but they aren’t everything, and they probably won’t matter much in the long run.

Sometimes, it’s nice just to think back to the beginning, and recently I’ve spent a lot of time thinking back to when we got engaged.

One way to get a less expensive ring or band…

December 7th, 2009 by

It may sound cliche, but the best memory I have is when Freesia Dude proposed to me. It was absolutely perfect- it was our anniversary, and he took me to a private dinner on a boat at Town Lake in Austin, TX. – just the two of us. Not only was that perfect in itself, but then he asked me to marry him- he had a heart-shaped necklace in his hand with “Will you marry me?” on it, and as I looked up, he was kneeling with the ring.

I know he was really nervous about the ring. But it was wonderful! The ring he gave me was a round solitaire that had been in his family for generations- since 1888! I just love that. What was he nervous about? He knew I liked white gold, but it was yellow gold. I’ve worn that ring for 7 months, and tonight I got the stone reset into a beautiful white gold setting.

Shower Invitations

December 4th, 2009 by

I have mentioned this before, but as it turns out, my older sister is also engaged at the moment. Yes, things are hectic in our family with two weddings in 2010, but since I have so much time to spare in my planning, I’ve been lucky enough to be able to spend some QT working on events for my sister’s wedding.  Currently, we are putting together her shower in March. The shower will take place at a hotel in D.C. for high tea.
