One things that we saved a big chunk of money on was flowers. I made all of our wedding flowers in advance with silk flowers to not only save money but also reduce stress (and they don’t wilt!). We were pleased with how all of the flowers came out.

The week before the wedding is a total blur. I can not believe how fast it went. I was fortunate enough to have had a ton of vacation days so I took the whole week off prior to the wedding, which really helped cut down on the stress level. My mom and I sat around and watched a lot of scary movies and started the off-the-air tv series, Jericho! Thank you Netflix instant! Exciting, I know!
Here is the week summed up in one little blog post!
Part #1: Wedding Prep
Poinsettia Dude flew back from San Francisco and we got our marriage license.

We are married! Hooray! I always thought being a Mrs. would feel different. To be honest, it doesn’t. And really, nothing has changed.
Yes, it’s true, we both felt different the night of the wedding, but I think that is because we were just surrounded by so much love and happiness! The morning after we woke up and said, “Good morning wife!” “Good morning husband!” just to test the new words but then we went right back to calling each other our regular nicknames.

Mr. Peach and I recently went to our first wedding since getting in engaged. It’s definitely true that you look these celebrations now with a very different lenses. What did we like? What didn’t we like? What hadn’t we thought of? This wedding was one of my very good friends from college, who has very similar tastes to me, so on top of being over the moon happy for her and her new hubby, I was very excited to see the final product of her special day, knowing all the hard work and details that went into her planning.
Anyway, we go to the church for the ceremony and then off to the reception. We arrived an adorable italian restaurant with a very European feel. The cocktail hour was in one room and after some munchies, we were ushered into the main area of the restaurant for the main meal. The dj welcomed us for the evening and then introduced the newly married couple, but no first dance. Hmm. Then our salads were served and her MOH and the best man gave speeches. Then our main course was served. Midway through my filet, I turn to Mr. Peach and say, “When are we going to dance?” Peachy MOH who was sitting on the other side of me responds with a quick, “Um, after dessert!” To which I must have looked shocked and surprised, because I had never been to a wedding like this. Sure enough, we finished eating. They cut the cake. We were served dessert. And then danced the remainder of the night.
Our entire table started talking about the order of events on a wedding day and apparently I’m the complete outsider.

So, yes, we’ve been together 5 years and the ring, to us, is a formality.
But sweet baby jesus… I got my bling, and I can’t stop looking at it, swooning over it and obsessing about it. I feel so materialistic, it’s not even the slightest bit funny.
Anyway, he made me go on an Easter egg hunt through our new house and the last (and biggest) egg had my ring in it! Awwww shucks. If you want to read the whole entire story, you can go here. But, in the meantime, here’s a ring pic (sorry that I’m being one of those girls):

So we met with a florist last weekend. Whew, that appointment was definitely more than I had bargained for! Lovebug and I had previously talked about what flowers we wanted in a road trip we had taken over the summer. He was content with having my mother and I go to the florist while he was at work knowing that we had pretty much already picked everything. Man, was he wrong.
Our appointment, which we were told would take about 2 hours, took 2 1/2 and we didn’t even get to reception decor! I was really pleased with the florist we met with, Nancy, and LOVED her ideas. I did not realize, however, how much stuff I needed to know already! She asked all kinds of questions that I really had not even thought about yet. Here are a sampling of them:
- How big are the flower girl baskets?
- What color dress is everyone wearing who is getting a corsage?
- Do we want pin-on corsages or wrist corsages?
- What type of wrap do we want for the bouquets?
- What color wraps do we want for the bouquets?
- Do we have swatches of both my dress and the bridesmaid dresses?

Choosing your photographer is very important, because he/she captures the special moments you’ll have forever. When I was going through our wedding album, each picture showed the love between Lavender Dude and me– and ultimately that’s what you want each photo to portray, right?

I have several friends that are now planning weddings. My husband is a groomsman for a wedding this July, and we are going to a wedding in September for a college friend. I am a bridesmaid for one in October and the matron of honor for my best friend’s wedding next March.
Preparing for all these weddings has got me excited again about the wedding planning process. It’s great to be able to share my experiences and give advice to my friends.
Too bad those are not my legs!
One of the ways I have been helping some of my friends is passing along books and magazines that I found useful (not only did this help them, it helped clear out most of the wedding clutter from my house! It’s a win-win!). I was still getting some of my wedding magazines long after my wedding date. After skimming through them, I passed them along to these engaged friends.
I also bought wedding magazine subscriptions for three of my friends when they told us they were engaged. It takes so long for wedding magazines to get you onto their distribution cycle that you have to start early! As we all know, wedding magazines cost an arm and a leg at typical retail outlets, so it’s a huge savings to buy the year subscription. My friends were all very pleased and excited when they received their first magazine.
