If you remember, I considered not having a first dance at our reception because Calla Lily Dude doesn’t like to dance. But, I am happy to report, that I got my first dance… and it was beautiful!!!

I was planning on having James Brown’s “I Feel Good” as our song, but while watching TV I fell in love with the song in an AT&T commercial. I Googled “ATT commercial song” to find out what it was. So, Landon Pigg’s “Falling in Love in a Coffee Shop” was our song.

I must admit that I am a huge mooshball and I tear up at a lot of different things including touching TV commercials. I would have to say I cry at about 9 out of 10 movies and the percentage is probably higher for weddings. The vows are usually what gets to me during the ceremony, but I have to say that the one thing which really makes me turn into a huge sap is the music that sets the mood.

As mentioned in a previous blog, we are having a guitarist perform all of our musical selection. It didn’t take us too long to make our final decisions on which songs to use for what since our guitarist has so many selections, plus he was open to learning any news songs that we would want.
So here’s some samples of our musical line-up:

We’re at a place in our planning where there isn’t that much concrete work we can do until our next trip to Ohio. So we have started the task of choosing the specific songs we want used during the wedding. We’ve chosen to go with a DJ instead of a band. He is a friend of my cousin and familiar with Indian music as well as American music. A lot of our guests like dancing, so we’re predicting a packed dance floor. We’re asking the D.J. for a mix of bhangra, Bollywood music, hip hop and pop.

As the date gets closer, new little things seem to be popping up EVERYWHERE and out of NOWHERE, but I continue to get more and more excited and enjoy every minute. The other day, my wedding coordinator, in Italy, recently requested that I send a list of songs that Cotton Dude and I want to have played at the reception party. Our DJ is Italian, and he is very talented in being the DJ in huge clubs, so we’re not worried about his ability to play some amazing dance music – however, not everyone at our reception will be of the Ibiza mindset. Therefore, we decided it is important to go through phases of music for the reception – starting with the slow dances and ending with glow sticks (kidding).

Rose Budette and I have decided to skip the band and DJ. We are trying to save money on certain parts of the wedding, without compromising the parts that are very important to us (the ceremony, the reception atmosphere, the food, and the pictures). So, we’ve decided to plug in an iPod to the VanLandingham Estate’s sound system.

If people feel like dancing, they’ll dance. If not, we’ll have some nice background music. It is saving us some money, but not skimping on the atmosphere. We’re also having our reception in the early afternoon, so people may not fee like dancing (yet). We’re having an after-party at Hartigans here in Charlotte, NC, so we’ll get to go out on the town the night of our wedding. Spin it!
We have gone “Overboard” and have booked an a cappella group to perform during our cocktail hour.

I fear people will think it is a little over the top to have separate musicians for the cocktail hour and the reception, but I bid on a one-hour performance at a charity silent auction and won. We got a really great deal, and all the money we paid goes to charity. What better use for an hour of music than our cocktail hour! Plus, these guys are great. We saw them “busking” in Newburyport one summer, and stopped and listened to them for about an hour on the pier. They had quite the crowd.

This was not a hard choice for Dahlia Dude and I to make. I’m always interested to hear why people had a hard time choosing. Bands are double, if not triple, the cost of a DJ. I’m sure this is not always the case, but it was for me. Plus, I’m the type of girl wanting the actual music, the way the musician intended for it to sound, instead of someone else’s interpretation of it. Maybe I’m in the minority.
We’re going with the awesome Jukebox Bandstand, by recommendation of the venue’s catering manager. She said they are used for any of their own corporate functions, and they’ve never had a problem. Enough said. Sign me up.

 Boombox Wedding
I absolutely love what these two have done with their wedding theme. Their love for music is very evident. Check it out!
Dandelion Dude and I both love music also. Not enough to make it our theme, but we buy tickets for shows and festivals months, even a year in advance sometimes. Together we have a huge album collection, and solid packed iPods that we are adding and taking music off of weekly. So music is something that we are not taking lightly, especially during the dinner. Over the past few months we have been going over our iTunes and grabbing songs we think would be perfect for the entrance and dinner. As for the dance music…we are going to trust our Dj and friend Brandon to do the mixing. This is what we have…
