I don’t know about anyone else, but I LOVE white lights, candles, lanterns — pretty much anything that sparkles. I think they are very romantic and definitely create a certain ambiance to any occasion. Where Lavender Dude and I got married, there were two large maple trees. We decided to utilize them and placed seating between the two trees for the guests. I truly loved the way the trees drooped down forming an arch around the guests and the area where we stood to get married. Like much of my wedding planning, it became a DIY project. I started by buying about 50 of these lanterns:

When I first got engaged a year to plan a wedding seemed like enough time. Here we are SIX months away from our wedding…and the panic is starting to set in.
This is what I have done so far -
- We chose our colors -hot pink and lime green…my two favorites.
- Booked the venue – it is exactly what we wanted. It is on the boardwalk. It is affordable and the food is amazing. We knew right when we walked in that it was the place for our wedding.

In about a week I am heading down with my Mom to Florida, where we are having our May destination wedding. This may be my last shot at on-site planning before heading down the week prior to the wedding in 5 months, so I am anxious to make the most of my trip down south. This is my Mom’s first visit to our wedding location, so I am eager to show her around as well. Delray Beach is such a lovely little town, I am really excited to check it out again!

Side Note: Do you ever stop to think about how you would plan a wedding without the internet? AMAZING how much we’ve come to depend on this resource.

I was very happy to see that our wedding was featured on The Bride’s Cafe Blog earlier this month!
“Welcome back to our next featured wedding…..Traci & Richard. Their lovely wedding was sent over by the INCREDIBLY TALENTED James Carson…..this is Jame’s first time stopping by the cafe and I’m so happy to share his beautiful work with you. Traci & Richard’s wedding took place at Falkner Winery, such a gorgeous venue and James captured their wedding day so perfectly…..such wonderful details and they are such a cute couple….let’s check out all the magic from James….Enjoy!”

If you haven’t checked out The Bride’s Cafe for inspiration, please do! The amount of creativity on that site blows my mind. They have some of the best DIY I have seen in the industry.
I know a cake topper is something small and frivolous. We could have done without one, but, honestly, a cake topper was something I looked forward to as a little girl. I know most trendy cake toppers right now are not little brides and grooms but rather monograms and flowers. But as a little girl, I thought it would be so neat to have a little miniature couple that looked just like me and my groom. And contrary to the popular opinion, I don’t think all of them are tacky or cheesy.
From an early age, I was a crafter and a big fan of making little clothespin dolls for holiday decorations. A little search allowed me to see what Rory Evans created for her cupcakes, which soon became my topper inspiration. She and her husband made a bridal pair for each of the cupcakes served. They individualized them and threw in some comical alterations as well. You can see more pictures of these darling toppers at the Bluelines blog.

I live in Metro-Detroit, and Pansy Dude works for General Motors. If you’ve turned on your tv in the past few months you know that Detroit is “The Most Miserable City” and that until very recently we’d been sitting on our hands waiting on Congress.
Needless to say, we aren’t in a position to spend wildly on presents this holiday season. In my quest to save save save, I made a number of my holiday gifts this year and as I was painting into the wee hours of the night, I realized that my mugs could easily be adjusted to fit wedding purposes. Maybe with your wedding motif, they would be appropriate at your bridal shower as gifts, or made extra special with gold or silver paint.

Scotch Tape
Pencil
Baby Wipes
Carbon Tracing Paper
Pebo Non-toxic Paint
Plastic Paint Applicator Bottles
Porcelain Mug <– I got my mugs for just under $3.00 a piece at Crate and Barrel!! Quite a deal.

This is a quick and easy how-to guide to create your very own wedding inspiration board.

Total cost = $30. Project Time = 30 minutes. Cuteness and Functionality = Priceless!
To create the magnetic board, you will need to following supplies: One 8×10 picture frame, one roll of Adhes-A-Mag, and if black doesn’t match your frame, one large sheet of colored scrapbook paper.

First, you remove the glass from the picture frame and use it to trace out your piece of magnet.

I am not a very tradition-minded person, but I thought it would be nice if I did incorporate the “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” tradition with a twist.

I made my own wedding jewelry and, I have to tell you, this was a great DIY project to work on! I had never made jewelry before, but I think it turned out lovely. I consider my necklace to be old because the pearls came from a strand of salt-water pearls from my grandma in Hawaii. It’s new because I purchased new beads to go in between the pearls. I “borrowed” the center jewel from a necklace I bought for my best friend’s wedding. Lastly, the crystal drop has a blue sparkle to it (you can’t quite see it in the picture).
I got the jewelry making tools from a craft store and purchased glass beads and fixings (the clasp and wire) from a local beading shop. I also got an inexpensive jewelry making workbook that explained all of the basics at the beading shop, too.
Believe it or not, the total cost of this fun DIY project was less than $15 dollars! Imagine that, $15 of tools and raw materials, 1 hour of time, a touch of creativity and a little deconstructing of two existing pieces of jewelry, and now I have a one-of-a-kind necklace with lots of sentimental value!
