It may sound cliche, but the best memory I have is when Freesia Dude proposed to me. It was absolutely perfect- it was our anniversary, and he took me to a private dinner on a boat at Town Lake in Austin, TX. – just the two of us. Not only was that perfect in itself, but then he asked me to marry him- he had a heart-shaped necklace in his hand with “Will you marry me?” on it, and as I looked up, he was kneeling with the ring.
I know he was really nervous about the ring. But it was wonderful! The ring he gave me was a round solitaire that had been in his family for generations- since 1888! I just love that. What was he nervous about? He knew I liked white gold, but it was yellow gold. I’ve worn that ring for 7 months, and tonight I got the stone reset into a beautiful white gold setting.

Now that you’ve had enough of my vanity, it’s time to check out my awesome dress! Renella De Fina Olivia, how I love you so. I’m so glad the cheapie H&M flower worked out so well, or else I would have had to take drastic measures.

Lots of things are getting crossed off my list this week. The invites have been proofed and are being printed as we speak! Many details on that front in a few weeks when the real assembly happens. Dahlia step-mom bought a S-MOB dress on a trip to Bloomingdales. I’m going to take a look at it this weekend. Dahlia mom and Dahlia FMIL have not bought dresses, so it’s exciting to get the show on the road. All but one bridesmaid dresses have arrived. The feedback is good – the red is really pretty, but most of them need some minor alterations (or major in Dahlia MOH’s case).

Cotton Dude and I received our wedding rings! Since we live in NYC, we went to the diamond district because we have a very, very helpful jewelry guy who gives us the best deals possible – we’re talking cost only. His office is upstairs on 47th Street in one of those strange buildings full of offices with full security and bullet proof reception desks. I guess it could be intimidating and scary for someone who’s not used to it, but it is fascinating and fun in my eyes.

“Get the F out” is what I first said when I heard of people making their own wedding bands. Well that, and picturing some awful hammered mess of a ring. Noper, my bestie Jill and her fiance just made their own bands, and they are fantastic!

This was not a hard choice for Dahlia Dude and I to make. I’m always interested to hear why people had a hard time choosing. Bands are double, if not triple, the cost of a DJ. I’m sure this is not always the case, but it was for me. Plus, I’m the type of girl wanting the actual music, the way the musician intended for it to sound, instead of someone else’s interpretation of it. Maybe I’m in the minority.
We’re going with the awesome Jukebox Bandstand, by recommendation of the venue’s catering manager. She said they are used for any of their own corporate functions, and they’ve never had a problem. Enough said. Sign me up.
