The Magnolia Proposal

November 8th, 2010 by

How did the Magnolias meet? Well… We were college sweethearts of sorts. We met when we were sixteen, and working our first jobs at McDonald’s (not too glamourous, lol). I was really afraid of the McFlurry machine … you know, the one that makes the ice cream blizzard knock-offs? Well. Did you know that if you don’t align the spoon in the machine properly, the whole thing explodes? For serious ! Anyway. Mr. Magnolia always made mine for me. Eventually he asked me to a movie. And the rest, as they say, is history.

After being together for almost 7 years, Mr. Magnolia and I decided to get married. We had always talked about it, but now we decided to get engaged. It was basically a, “I’m ready. Propose now.” Or rather, propose yesterday. I’m quite impatient.

But propose, Mr. Magnolia did – and he did it beautifully. One thing you should know about Mr. Magnolia: he’s a perfectionist. Proposing, and choosing a ring, was a big deal: and luckily for me, he wanted to do it right.

I said…. Hold on to that ring! (the sequel)

Do you remember the story I shared with the garden back in August of Matt Cawley and Stacey Scanlon?  Well, it turns out their experience is not as uncommon as you might think!  Just ask Trey Turner and Kelsey Kramer, who experienced a similar mishap at the end of September in the big apple.  You know the story: boy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy decides he wants to marry girl.  Typical love story, right?

Wrong!  In this case, boy decides he wants to marry girl so he attempts to propose but instead he drops the ring off the Brooklyn Bridge.  Oops!

Hold on to that ring!

August 20th, 2010 by

Periwinkle Dude still teases me about something I did the night we got engaged.  We were at the top of the Empire State Building, it was mid-February, very windy, and incredibly cold.  After standing outside for so long, nature called so I excused myself to the ladies’ room.  As I was about to wash my hands I worried about getting my new and sparkly ring wet, or worse — dropping it down the sink!  So I (irrationally) slipped the ring off my finger and — not knowing where to put it once I took it off — held on to it in my teeth.

The Best Laid Plans of Mice…

And Men” “I don’t think men had anything to do with it” – The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

I just realized I never told you the story of our engagement. Well like any modern couple we had both discussed together that we were ready for the next step and set about laying the plans for our wedding budget and what we both wanted in a wedding. We picked the ring together and it was no surprise that we were going to be engaged. Originally the fiancé planned on proposing in Sedona, where we had discussed possibly getting married.

Unfortunately the ring had not arrived in time, but we still spent a lovely weekend in Sedona nonetheless. He quickly changed his plans to propose at our infamous Sushi Tuesday. Yes we go every Tuesday… they set out our chopsticks at our seats at the bar. They actually took bets if we would be there on the Tuesday following Labor Day or if we would come on Wednesday (like the trash), we went on Tuesday.

A Periwinkle Engagement

July 13th, 2009 by

Hello garden!  Now that the big day is over and I’m back in action, I intend to share ALL the juicy details of our wedding planning experience with you.  I can’t think of a better place to start than the beginning of the whole process — our engagement night!  The date was Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2008.  Periwinkle Dude and I enjoyed a delicious early dinner at Wallse Restaurant, and then he suggested we go out for a little after-dinner fun, which I agreed to on the condition that he choose the location.  So, he brainstormed and then we hopped in a cab and Dude directed us to an “undisclosed location”.  I really had no idea where we were headed, and was very surprised to end up at none other than… drum roll please… the Empire State Building!
