Since before receiving “the ring”, I wanted a cocktail style reception with the room, wherever it would happen to be, needed to look like a lounge- an upscale lounge with some retro flair. Finding a venue was difficult enough… yet alone for it to be a lounge. In my head, we had racked up thousands in décor to make my vision a reality. Until I met the JW!
A few years back, a club called Plush opened and shortly closed. Unfortunately, in Vegas, “local” clubs aren’t very big. Vegas’ loss is our gain. Meet my new venue: A night club that is now rented out for parties. Can you say FABU??? (Perfect would be a perfect word, but I try not to use the word perfect when talking about my wedding!) This is the most excitement I’ve had since getting the ring!

When you have an abundance of out of town (OOT) guests, a wonderful and thoughtful way to welcome them is to leave OOT bags/gifts in their hotel rooms. Yes, this can get costly, depending on your number of guests, or you can wholesale shop and keep it affordable. Just what do you include in these baskets? They can be as easy or as elaborate as you wish!

A hot topic for wedding planning is always: Kids or no kids at the wedding / in the wedding & at the reception. There are plenty of valid arguments and reasons for both. Poinsettia Dude and I have decided to go with the NO KIDS option. Knowing it would not be well received by some; we discussed this together, in depth, and were on the same page.
Yes, they can be cute:

But they can also be devils:

Now that we (ok…at least I) am getting older and have several friends also getting married and having babies, something to consider is having pregnant bridesmaids. For some reason (and I’m sure it is a good reason to them) some brides will tell their friends to delay pregnancy until after their wedding. I am sorry but the world won’t stop turning, no matter how hard anyone tries. When asking one of my BM’s she actually asked if I would be mad if she happened to get preggo and was preggo at the wedding. The answer, plain and simple, is no.
While this bridesmaid won’t be pregnant at the wedding…. (hehe, little secret: she is already preggo!), it made me think about expanding my dress options in case we needed to.
Long are the days of frump and bulk. Welcome are the days of stunning dresses that will fit the rest of your wedding! I couldn’t help but to love these two from Aria:

Recently, I read through the checklist and timing emails that find their way to my inbox each day. Good thing – there is just around eight months left to go and apparently it is time to get hopping on accessories, such as veils.
There was a time when I knew that veils weren’t me and that one would not be perched on my head on the wedding day. That all changed as I began to try on wedding dresses and the consultants would bring them out, place them on and a slight tear would form in the corner of my eye. That was a sign- it was time to reconsider. Isn’t it funny how everything changes from our vision to our reality??

My engagement photos were over three months ago but I still have very vivid thoughts of “do-overs” with the photos. Our photo shoot was literally an entire 9 hour day and by the end, we were exhausted, but that is when some of our better photos popped up.
Lessons Learned from Engagement Photos, but could apply to the Wedding Photos:
1. I read up on E-pic sessions and it was recommended to leave your purses, bags, etc. behind and just take your car key. I disagree. Take everything you need: lipstick/gloss, compact, hair spray, make up for touch ups, mirror, and snacks! (especially if you are diabetic, like me)….
2. Keep your lip sticks, gloss, keys, etc. in a bag. DO NOT keep them in your pocket like I did. D’oh….

All while thinking of and the planning of my wedding; I wanted it to be “unique”. Famous last words, right? I highly doubt that there will be anything at our wedding that has not been seen at other weddings before. The Photo booth, the Candy Buffet, the flip flops, the dance, it’s all appeared on the cover of the Been-There-Done-That Times. The only thing different is the players, my fiancé and I. Different pictures of different places, but the same sugar high.
Inspired by other weddings, I decided to have a caricature drawn of my Mr. Poinsettia and I that we can use for our favors, little signs and anywhere else where we would like to shove our faces down the throats of our guests. All of that said lovingly, of course. I am trying not to shove our faces down the throats of our guests by not using too many of our photos in too many places, but that is part of what the wedding is about- seeing the transformation of the couple from their early days.

In keeping with my “make your aisle look more like a runway” goal, I found a great place to make this happen for the guys- The Tie Bar. I love perusing this site, dreaming up the color combos that can be created from their color combos. If I were a guy, this would be my Sephora.
Poinsettia Dude has already decided that he would like a green tie… and I want to get shoes to match! YAY! So I picture him in something like this:

There is nothing that I strive for more than having a fun, casual, yet classy, wedding. It was no surprise when my heart fluttered in coming across this website. This has to be one of the most unique, special gifts, ever.
Upon meeting poinsettia Dude, I was fairly certain that if I were to ever marry, my last name would remain intact. I like my initials as they are and I liked being my own person. In time, I realized how important creating that “family unit” was to him and how important it was for his wife to have his name that my selfish reasoning went out the window. Since then, I have already committed to taking his name and think that this is one of the most fabu ways to show him that we are now our own family creation.

How do you put all of your ideas out into one visual place where you can see it all come together?? The coveted “Inspiration Board”.
Making an inspiration board was one of my favorite activities, so far (I’m eagerly awaiting cake tastings). There are several ways to create the boards—until I figured it out, I thought that everyone around me was so creative and I had no skills in the world of design. You can use a fun site like Polyvore and create a “fashion” board and put some looks together. I loved using this site to see what dresses and tuxes would look like together. I’ve also enjoyed using the boards at the fabulous Wedding Wire (along with the guest tracker, budgeting, other inspiration).
This is my board courtesy of Polyvore:
