I have decided to take a different spin today as wedding planning has me totally stressed out, and I have turned my attention to the glorious, relaxing honeymoon that lies ahead! I know when planning for the honeymoon, a lot of thought goes into it. Things we prepare for normally include: where to stay, how to get there, appropriate clothing for the trip, all-inclusive vs. nothing included, great restaurants and things to see and do.

I think what most of us don’t think about is how we plan to document that amazing, once-in-a-lifetime moment that we will all cherish for the rest of our lives. It’s funny that we spend all this time researching the right photographer for our wedding, but no one ever thinks about photography for the honeymoon. When Lavender Dude and I were deciding where to have our honeymoon, we definitely knew that we wanted to go somewhere with a beach, pool, and sun. We both had done a lot of the Caribbean islands, so we started looking on the Pacific side of Mexico. After talking to both of our parents, we decided on a beautiful location in Mazatlan. I had heard of Mazatlan from my grandmother who used to travel there a lot when the city center was very up and coming. The theater district there was actually a hot spot, as was the shopping and restaurants. Unfortunately since then (which had to have been about 30 or so years ago) the city center has lost a lot of it’s excitement. But that didn’t stop us from going. We stayed at the Emerald Bay, Pueblo Bonito – and the part I loved the most was the way they had made the hotel look like a mix between ancient Italy (where we got engaged) and ancient Greece (Lavender Dude is Greek). There was a pool just for adults, which for us was very important – only because I wanted peace and serenity, and the hotel was actually about 15 minutes from the city center – so it was secluded enough that we felt like we are on our own island.

I recently went to Rome, Italy for a week of vacation fun in Europe’s boot with Calla Lily Dude. It was kind of like a second honeymoon for us, and it was a little longer than our actual honeymoon. For this trip and our honeymoon, I made myself a honeymoon travel kit that came in handy for my general travel needs and all those romantic moments.
The first thing I did for my kit was create personalized travel-size bottles of my regular products such as body wash, shampoo and conditioner. All you have to do is buy an inexpensive travel set like the one below and use clear labels to personalize it (and I just used a few left over labels from other wedding projects, too).
