When we were thinking about our exit, the only thing I really wanted was sparklers. I knew it would be dark out and that it would just look really cool. We are all looking a little damp because it poured a few minutes before!

I am happy to report that Dogwood Dude and I found every single one of our parameters when searching for our destination wedding! The Key Largo Grande Resort & Beach Club is an hour from Miami Airport, budget friendly for us and our guests (especially for those Hilton Rewards Members), has two amazing 3rd floor rooms overlooking the ocean in case of rain, has a beach covered in arching hammock trees….and PLENTY to do! The funny thing is that so many people ask me how we chose Key Largo, which seems so remote to most, and I always tell them…we just had five parameters!
Here are some pics!

Once I had the dress on, it was time to go outside and shoot some bridal portraits. Plumeria Dude and I decided to do all of our photographs before the ceremony so that we could spend more time with our guests during the reception. Neither of us are particularly superstitious, and it was really nice to hang out with him. I still had butterflies before the ceremony itself!

It takes a village to dress a bride? In my case, yes. One of my favorite features of my dress is the cascade of pearl buttons down the back. Sure, there’s a zipper, but the buttons are functional and also impossible to fasten on your own. Plumeria Sisters-In-Law to the rescue! Though I didn’t have traditional bridesmaids, both ladies were invaluable in helping on my wedding day and I can’t thank them enough. Look at what I put them through:

Now that you’ve had enough of my vanity, it’s time to check out my awesome dress! Renella De Fina Olivia, how I love you so. I’m so glad the cheapie H&M flower worked out so well, or else I would have had to take drastic measures.

After the night of semi-debauchery, Plumeria Dude and I got to sleep in a little the morning of the wedding. One of the benefits of having an evening wedding! My sister-in-law’s dad cooked us a real Texas breakfast– homemade biscuits and gravy! While a lot of the busy bees were helping set things up in the tent and at the ceremony site, Plumeria Dude and I had some time to ourselves. We attempted to sea-kayak, but strong winds made it a Sisyphean activity.

I think I have just arrived at the stage of wedding planning when one realizes that there’s a lot of work to be done, and maybe not as much time to accomplish everything as one thought. 290 days sure sounds like a lot, but when you get down to brass tacks, I gotta get moving. Let’s take a moment to review:
What is done:
Venue is picked which will host ceremony and reception – The Sundy House
The "Warhol Room" where we will have the reception at the Sundy House

When it came down to escort cards, I had a hard time envisioning what would make the best presentation for our guests. With all of the last-minute changes at our venue, I didn’t know whether the display would be outside (and therefore subject to wind) or inside. I didn’t want anything too chintzy either. Also, I didn’t want to have to transport anything large, bulky or fragile from Georgia down to our Florida Keys venue.

Being an avid traveler, I’ve always known that I wanted a destination wedding. The idea of exchanging vows somewhere beautiful and exotic always appealed to me– plus I had heard that it can be cheaper and easier to plan a wedding abroad. So about 5 minutes after we got engaged last July, I started looking for “the right” destination venue for our wedding.

I didn’t realize it would be like trying to find the proverbial needle in a haystack, which is why it took eight ridiculously long months to find the right place and set a date.

 The moment of truth
Well folks, I’m finally back from my honeymoon and ready to start posting about my May 16 nuptials to Plumeria Dude! I am really excited about being a Bridal Blossom and can’t wait to share everything with you all. Before our professional pics come back, I’ll have lots of posts about last-minute projects and stuff that I didn’t want to give away before the wedding.
