Our Special Moment

January 15th, 2013 by

The Joker and I chose to do the “first reveal” moment just before the ceremony, where he and I would get to see each other alone for a few minutes before everything began.  It was the first time he saw my wedding dress, and the last moments we would have together before we got married.

The Joker was waiting for me inside the sanctuary with the photographer, as Mommy Orchid and our wonderful Wedding Day Coordinator (SERIOUSLY, Garden.  An absolute must) helped me walk from the room we were getting ready in into the sanctuary.  The wedding coordinator peeked through a back door to see if they were ready for me, and when she did I could hear “Whatever It Is” by Zac Brown Band playing in the sanctuary.  The Joker and I love ZBB, and we had always liked this song.  But hearing just a snippet of the chorus as I was waiting for this very special moment on our wedding day, and I was in tears.  Needless to say, this song has taken on a whole new meaning for the Joker and I.  Our wedding coordinator confirmed the photographer was ready for me, and I headed in to the sanctuary.

The photographer told Mistah J to turn around.

The Joker oo’d and awe’d over my dress and hair, saying he couldn’t believe how perfect it all was.  And I was excited for him to finally see the big secret I had been in love with for months.

As I’ve said a million times on this blog, to each her own.  If your groom seeing you before you walk down the aisle is the highest of cardinal sins, the biggest dose of bad luck, a huge spoiler alert for the groom, then don’t do it.  However, if this is something you’re even slightly considering? I will strongly recommend you do it.  Here’s why:

You won’t forget it.  The look on Joker’s face as he turned around wasn’t captured on film.  Not perfectly, at least.  He covered his mouth surprised as tears filled his eyes.  “Honey!” he gasped. “You look beautiful!” I will never ever forget that for the rest of my life.  And for those of you worried your groom seeing you before the ceremony will ruin that special moment? From personal experience, I can say it didn’t ruin ours.  In fact, for me, it only enhanced the moment. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to explain how.

After the moment alone, everyone from the bridal party came in, and we started to take our pictures.  And that’s where we’ll pick up next time.
