I opted for Hydrangeas for my girls because one bunch is about the size I wanted for their bouquets and they mixed our blue and green colors nicely.

I wrapped the stem of each in yarn so they would have white bases and something for the girls to grip.

I purchased white silk roses, green roses (they were made out of a foam-like material), and ribbon then I got to work making my bouquet. Like I did with my veil, I’ll give you a photo overview.

Lilac Dude and I decided that we should invest in passports to make travel easier. Since we are leaving the country in October we decided to apply this summer and not rush anything. While we were discussing applying for passports we found out that prices were going to go up by $35 on Tuesday. We managed to make it to the Clerk of Courts on Monday and spent 10 minutes in the office applying and now… we wait.

I would have been writing this post sooner had I known sooner about the price hikes in advance. Regardless, some of you out there may still need passports so I’d like to help you get started on that and spend as little time and money on the process as possible.
The one and only piece of advice I can give anyone applying for a passport: BE PREPARED

My veil was the first and most important DIY project for our wedding. Although the following are not specific instructions maybe they will help another DIY bride out.
I measured my tulle… you can see my former entry for estimated measurements here

For my double layered veil I doubled the length. Then I cut it to the shape I wanted, folded it in half, and then made the top layer slightly shorter than the bottom layer.

CC and I are crafty folks. I enjoy making things with my hands; he enjoys designing things on his computer. It’s a perfect combo for creating a very DIY wedding. We have even coined ourselves as “mutual muses”. We feed off of each others’ creativity. When he’s stuck designing something for work, he asks my opinion. When I’m not sure which flower to include in the boutonnieres, he’s there to help.
I knew that we were going to create many of the elements of our wedding ourselves, but I hadn’t really considered how much time and planning that would take. Fortunately, I didn’t enroll in summer classes and have had plenty of time to craft. CC, being the night owl that he is, has also found time to tweak our wedding images at his computer.
So, what exactly are we DIY-ing for our wedding?
I hadn’t tried to make a list until last week (1 month before our wedding date) of all the things we are making… and boy! was I surprised how big the list is!

CC and I got engaged about 2 weeks before my older sister (Cotton MOH1) made a trip to CA for a visit. One evening during her stay while having dinner at a restaurant near Yosemite, we discussed our new engagement. Cotton MOH1, who was not yet Maid of Honor, was so excited for us to pick a date for our wedding, she grabbed a napkin and pen, scrolled through her cell phone calender and was ready to make it happen! CC and I weren’t quite there yet, but it did get us thinking about it.

Sometimes I feel like I bit off more than I can chew when I decided to be a DIY bride. Other times I get extremely excited to make so many things myself and put myself into the wedding.
 From 100layercake.com
Here’s my tentative list of DIY wedding projects:
1. My veil – this is for sure because it’s 60% finished
2. Bridesmaid jewelry- I was very close to scrapping this and then I was inspired by Moon Bud’s DIY pearl stringing post here

Since planning my beach wedding, I’ve become infatuated with pearls! I always thought pearls were way out of my budget, but after some heavy research I’ve found a way to satisfy my “caviar” taste on my “tuna” budget. I put myself on a mission to get at least one set of nice pearls without breaking the bank. My findings have since afforded me with four sets, and I LOVE them!
 My Pearls!
A great way to get anything cheap is to go directly to the source, right? So, after some research, I found a reliable e-bay seller that sells pearls directly from overseas at a very reasonable price tag. For $10-$30 you can buy better quality pearls than those strung on necklaces retailing over $100, very nice discounts. Not only cheaper, but actually better quality, too! The “catch” is that they typically sell them “unstrung”, so today’s post is a DIY for how to string your own pearls. It may seem overwhelming or intimidating at first, but it really isn’t as bad as it sounds. There are only a few things you need before you start:

Last weekend Periwinkle Dude and I attended a beautiful wedding. After 11 months of engagement, our friends “E” and “B” tied the knot and we were so happy to be there to celebrate with them! The ceremony and reception were held at the Sea Oaks Country Club, near the Jersey Shore. The country club was a bright and open airy space, with windows that looked out onto the pristine golf course below. Here is a shot of the ballroom from Sea Oak’s website:

Yep… I ordered my wedding invites for $79.91. I designed them using Microsoft PowerPoint 2007. I saved them as PDF files and then uploaded them to Vista Print. I posted some of the items, the resolution here is not as clear as they will be, so please don’t think I’m sending out poorly made invites.
 These are my response cards.
