A link to a very interesting article was posted recently on a thread over at the forums on Wedding Wire, that discusses the many tiers of a bride – based on her budget. Naturally, I landed on the bottom rung, which didn’t surprise me. What did was the seeming lack of respect the author had for brides on such a small budget.
Here’s a direct quote:
“DIY Bride: (Budget: under $5000) Someone who probably doesn’t have the resources to get married just yet and is likely to turn most of her wedding into an Arts and Crafts project.”

This blogger feels she is worthy of donations to help pay for her wedding via her new blog:
Help Me Pay For My Wedding!

She is a broke recessionista with NO set wedding date, and a fresh diamond on her finger.
Part of me is like “pay for your own %$#& wedding like the rest of us, sister”.
The other part of me is like “if she makes more than $1000 I’m so mad I didn’t think of this”.
But then, there’s a pride thing working against me. Buds, I want to hear your thoughts!

The search has come to an end. All of the mason jars needed for the centerpieces were found by my wonderful maid of honor Jennifer!! She wanted to use a few for my bridal shower and came across an estate sale that had all different types. Even some of the blue-ish green color (I’ve seen some at Antique shops that can be as much as $16…no joke)! The man said he had 6 boxes of twelve that he would sell for $10 each plus the ones floating outside the box he’d sell for .50 cents each.

We want them all. And for around $60 for over 72 antique ones…who could pass that up? I now have all of the coffee tins and mason jars for the centerpieces, and hanging aisle jars (more on that later). Woohoo!!!! I’m very relieved!
Estate sales are very cool.

I was watching Say Yes to the Dress on TLC and they showcased a bride who used all of her wedding funds to help her family during Hurricane Ike. I bet the situation could be repeated a thousand times in with this economy. “Our budget was this, I/he/we/dad/mom/ect lost their job and now it’s this.”
Not to wallow in a sad place, but in discussing the weddings my family has been to, we’ve come up with a list of things that are optional. Please note that these are lovely things and I wouldn’t want anyone to feel like I was raining on a parade. Just a few suggestions to help those (like me) who are facing Wedding Budget cuts due to the recent economy.

#1. Favors. My mom has been to two weddings recently and threw out the last one, and didn’t bother taking the other. My dad has been to two where neither had them. I went to one where they served petit fours, before dinner. Nice but not necessary. Savings of $100-$500

For anyone that’s in the Washington, DC area, Master’s Tuxedos in Arlington is having a going out of business sale. Very nice tuxedos are being sold for an amazing price. Lotus Dude just bought a nice wool tuxedo for about the same price he would have spent to rent a similar tuxedo. And in spite of the store closing and the crowd, we received great service. They also do basic alterations for a very reasonable price. They have a bridal section as well, though I didn’t have the time to look at their selection of wedding dresses or the prices.

For those of you not in the D.C. area, it seems like a good idea to keep an eye out for going out of business sales for stores which may carry wedding supplies, clothing, decorations, etc. Sadly, the economic situation makes it likely we may be seeing more and more independent businesses going under. But it can be a way to find products for a cheap price and still receive good service.
I decided that I was going to propose to Calla Lily Dude about 3 months before I popped the question and ever since then, I have to confess that I have had a secret addiction…

…to BRIDAL MAGAZINES!!!
I have been buying bridal magazines whenever I have the chance, but I only buy them when Calla Lily Dude is out of town or when I know he will not be around. Because I am not a bride-y traditionally-minded bride, I don’t like to admit that I love weddings and reading bridal magazines exposes my deep, dark wedding-loving secret.
But, behind my silly, self-imposed “shame” of loving bridal magazines, I have to admit that I have gotten several great ideas from my magazine reading habit, including many different ways to save money and using sparklers to jazz up our grand exit!

Me and Calla Lily Dude are planning a relatively unconventional wedding, but I love seeing magazines full of traditional wedding goodness. But no matter what kind of wedding you are planning, I think bridal magazines can be a great source of inspiration… so I will keep reading away!!!
Currently I am loving cheap personalization. I bought a pack of 30 bubbles with little hearts on the end for $10. I will be tying personalized ribbon onto the ends.

I also thought the bubbles would be great for picture purposes. How cute??

Hello BridalBuds Blogging Community!
This is my first real blogging experience and it’s pretty cool that it’s going to be all about planning one of the most important days in my life!
To tell you a little about myself, I grew up in Rhode Island, went to New Hampshire to a small Division III school where I played volleyball and received my degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences. I decided I wasn’t quite done with school yet, so I went for my masters degree at Northeastern University in Clinical Exercise Physiology. I started the job I have now immediately after graduating in 2005.
