Before I dive into what I am going to wear on one of the most important days of my life, I have inched into dress options by looking at bridesmaid dresses first. From what I’ve seen, it has become increasingly popular to pick a color/fabric, and then have your bridesmaids pick the cut for which they feel is most flattering on their body.

I’m a little bit torn on this. I’m having 6 bridesmaids, all of which have pretty different body types. I want them all to feel comfortable in their dress, but am not sure I like the varying necklines/straps/etc should they all choose different dresses.

An average bridesmaids dress from a bridal boutique would probably cost you about $130-$250. There are some gorgeous ones out there, but let’s face it…most of the girls will only be wearing it once. Plus, if you’re having them pay for it, you definitely need to be cost conscious. On the other hand, if you’re paying for it…it does add up!
Is $50 and under possible? Absolutely! I did! You just need to be looking at the right places. Recently, I’ve been discovering these online stores that sell some great dresses, accessories, and shoes for great prices.
Below are some examples of bridesmaids dresses I’ve found at different stores:

Lulu’s: $38.00

LuLu’s: $37.00
In a previous post, I thought I knew what bridesmaid dress I wanted my girls to wear. It was going to be this dress in either blue or green.
Alfred Angelo style 7018, in Glass Green
I had only looked at chiffon bridesmaid dresses so that the fabric would match my dress. After some time and consideration, I browsed through some more dresses. I just wasn’t sure that was the dress I wanted to see in my photos forever.

Now that the stress of finding a wedding venue and securing a date is behind me, I can not stop stressing about how to ask my best friends to be bridesmaids in my wedding. I have so many ideas circling my brain but I just can’t decide so I thought I would ask the garden. Please give me your feedback and let me know your thoughts!

To give you a little background information, the girls are my best friends from growing up and are scattered across the U.S. – Virginia, DC, Indiana, Ohio, & Tennessee.

My morning commute is pretty hellish, taking me around an hour to get to work every morning. My only saving grace is a local DC morning radio show called The Kane Show. It is a bit of shock and awe radio, but it wakes me up in the mornings and keeps me entertained. This morning was no exception. I pulled into the parking lot this morning as they began a story with a caller that had me glued to my car seat… and very tardy to work. You see, this caller, a bride who plans to marry in October, couldn’t figure out why all of her bridesmaids were upset with her, with some to the point of bailing on her big day. Being a recent bride, I hate to hear those kinds of intros and wanted to see what was up with her friends. The Kane Show began by asking her if the bridesmaids had given a reason as to their disdain with the bride. That is when the bride began talking about her “requests” of each of her bridesmaids.

CC and I got engaged about 2 weeks before my older sister (Cotton MOH1) made a trip to CA for a visit. One evening during her stay while having dinner at a restaurant near Yosemite, we discussed our new engagement. Cotton MOH1, who was not yet Maid of Honor, was so excited for us to pick a date for our wedding, she grabbed a napkin and pen, scrolled through her cell phone calender and was ready to make it happen! CC and I weren’t quite there yet, but it did get us thinking about it.

Just as a wonderful aside to how beautiful bridesmaid’s dresses really are, I made my Christmas Tree Skirt out of my last bridemaid’s dress and it looks wonderful! I seriously took it from this… to this!
Personal Photo
 Neiman Marcus
… Well not quite, that beautiful tree skirt is from Neiman Marcus, but it’s similar to my Bridesmaid’s-Dress-Turned-Tree-Skirt. The point is that I don’t want my Bridesmaids to turn their dresses into something else, I hope they will actually like them. This is a tall order I know, but thankfully I have only 2 bridesmaids!

Last Friday, I met with my bridesmaids and we talked about the overall look for hair and make up. Towie Bear’s brother recently married a talented lady that has experience doing hair and make up. She has graciously accepted to take care of my bridesmaids. We love her!
We covered the following details:
- Have each bridesmaid select a hairstyle that they like.
I encouraged them to share the styles that they are considering in order for me to be on the same page. I also told them that they can all wear a different hair style.
- Ask each bridesmaid if they will take care of their own hair and make up.
This is an important question to ask because we can then determine a realistic timeline of the amount of time our hair and make up artist will focus on each lady.
- Determine the transportation that each bridesmaid will have for the wedding day.

Let’s face it, weddings can be expensive…. not only for the hosts but for guests as well. Attending a wedding can require travel expenses, hotel accommodations, and then of course there’s a gift to be purchased. And let’s not forget the bridal party! Our best buds often end up shelling out money for special wedding attire and pre-wedding events in addition to the costs regular guests face; which can really add up. Sure our bridesmaids and groomsmen are our closest friends and are happy to support us on our big day; but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t exercise good judgment and restraint when imposing costs on them. My advice to you? Remember to consider financial situations when choosing your bridal party and don’t ask them to pay for more than you’d be willing to if the situations were reversed.

I actually don’t have bridesmaids, only two maids-of-honor. And I asked them both in different ways.
I. Maid-of-Honor M is getting married in February 2011 and her colors are black and white with deep red roses. When I saw these organizers, I thought it would be perfect for her planning…
