Oh my goodness, this is the best news ever. I was doing my usual check of stylemepretty.com when I came across a posting about a new site called NewlyMaid.
This is by far the coolest thing. I had tried selling my bridesmaid dress to a consignment shop but had no luck due to its color and the season we were heading into, the dress is baby blue and if you live in the NorthEast you are still reeling from the freak snowstorm we just had. Anywho, I had previously thought I’d chop a few inches off the dress, then I got lazy and thought it might be a nice maternity dress, but this NewlyMaid site, hopefully, solves all of my dillemas.
You send in your dress, the folks there evaluate it and put credit on your NewlyMaid account and you put it towards a fun new cocktail dress. I’m hoping I get more than nothing for it, I paid over $260 for the dress, but at least I won’t have to look at it til the end of days and wonder when and how I can actually wear it again.

So my quest to find the perfect bridesmaid dress began the day after we got engaged. Literally. That Saturday morning, 3 crazy Peachy ladies (Peachy Mom, Peachy MOH and I) went to one of the more popular bridal salons in our area just to look. We each swore to each other we weren’t buying. And we didnt. But we tried on lots of options including this one: And this one…

Before I ever became engaged, I’d promised myself that I would be an EASY bride. No, not that kind of easy. Easy in the sense that I wouldn’t micromanage every teensy detail, I wouldn’t freak out over small things that didn’t matter. I would avoid at all costs having a bridezilla moment.
Part of that commitment to nonchalance was to let my bridesmaids choose their own dresses. The plan was to select a basic color palette and then leave them to their own devices to pick a dress that they loved and felt comfortable in. Everyone’s doing that nowadays anyway, right?
Well, easier said than done.

This weekend we will be placing the order for the bridesmaids’ dresses! I’m pretty excited about this, mostly because it means I will get see some of my best friends. I’ve been fairly isolated for the past few months with work, internship, and classes. It hasn’t been very fun and I haven’t been able to much of anything except watch the occasional Glee episode. (Loved the original songs)
Some of my girls were getting a little anxious wondering when we should be placing the order for the dresses. I guess I’m a bit of a slacker bride because I hadn’t really thought about it! I’ve had a few thousand things on my mind other than wedding planning. Plus we’ve been engaged for so long it’s kind of hard for me to imagine that there are things that actually need to get done now! I’ve always been so far ahead of everything on my checklist on The Knot. The other week I looked at it and was shocked to find little red alarm clocks next to them, screaming, ”Complete me!” Woops….

I LOVE MODCLOTH. If you’re having a lot of mix and match bridesmaid dresses, you should come to this place! There are so many vintage, indie, and eclectic styles dresses that definitely have bridesmaid dress written all over it. I wish I found this website before I got all my dresses. Sigh…
What I love about ModCloth is that they sell hundreds of dresses online for relatively decent prices. They also sell vintage/indie styles clothing lines and accessories. Here are some bridesmaid potential dresses I found.
Before I dive into what I am going to wear on one of the most important days of my life, I have inched into dress options by looking at bridesmaid dresses first. From what I’ve seen, it has become increasingly popular to pick a color/fabric, and then have your bridesmaids pick the cut for which they feel is most flattering on their body.

I’m a little bit torn on this. I’m having 6 bridesmaids, all of which have pretty different body types. I want them all to feel comfortable in their dress, but am not sure I like the varying necklines/straps/etc should they all choose different dresses.

An average bridesmaids dress from a bridal boutique would probably cost you about $130-$250. There are some gorgeous ones out there, but let’s face it…most of the girls will only be wearing it once. Plus, if you’re having them pay for it, you definitely need to be cost conscious. On the other hand, if you’re paying for it…it does add up!
Is $50 and under possible? Absolutely! I did! You just need to be looking at the right places. Recently, I’ve been discovering these online stores that sell some great dresses, accessories, and shoes for great prices.
Below are some examples of bridesmaids dresses I’ve found at different stores:

Lulu’s: $38.00

LuLu’s: $37.00
I’ve been in three weddings over the course of my 28 years on earth and I was lucky enough to not have been forced to wear some hideous dress. All I wanted was for my bridesmaids to be comfortable and to find something they could actually wear again (though, we all know that will never happen, but I had good intentions.).
Being that my bridesmaids are all shapes and sizes, I told them they could pick whatever dress they like as long as they are all similar in length. I had settled on yellow and blue as a color scheme, but decided that I could make any summery color work for my wedding. Since I didn’t have much of a vision, it was easy for me to tell the girls to work together to decide on a color, as long as it was light and summery.
Their dress appointment was the same day as mine and once I had decided on a wedding dress, we all ran off to the racks where the girls pulled an array of dresses in a rainbow of colors to try on.
I have no proof of this, but I think it’s safe to say that this was probably the easiest bridesmaid appointment David’s Bridal has ever encountered. Within about 20 minutes the girls all decided on this knee-length strapless number in pool, which is DB’s version of Tiffany Blue.

So the title may be a bit of an exaggeration but its a disaster to me. This is a picture of the dress. That is the color and my MOHs will have the exact one below, the rest of the bridal party will have solid celadon dresses.

I have some pretty awesome bridesmaids. My 4 ladies include my good friend from way back in junior high, my sister, my sister in-law and my roommate. All 4 are very supportive and easy to work with, but are completely different from hair color to height so picking a bridesmaid dress took some time.
I picked the dress this weekend, but I have to pick the color.
