Here's a photo taken by a friend, with professional photos to come soon!
Well, we’re married and back from the honeymoon! Things went smoothly for the most part and we had an amazing time at both the wedding and the honeymoon. I couldn’t be happier with all the vendors we hired and I will definitely be sending out some thank you notes to them as well as to guests. I’ll be doing a weekend recap in some upcoming posts but for now, I’ll just post about 2 sort-of glitches with the wedding weekend.

Lotus Dude and I were in Columbus this past weekend for an old friend’s wedding. I have to say we had a wonderful time at the wedding, but the weekend was extra special to us because we went to Columbus early Friday morning in order to get our wedding license. All in all, it was a relatively painless process. We checked the website for the requirements months ago to make sure we had the necessary documents. Thankfully all we needed was government issued photo identification, social security cards, and cash for the fee. I even called to double check that nothing else was required. It might have been overkill, but better safe than sorry.

I should have been as careful about making sure that I had the required documents ahead of time. I almost had a heart attack the night before our flight to Columbus when I couldn’t find my social security card. Thankfully, Lotus Dude averted the crisis by finding it. However, it would have saved us both some worry if this ordeal hadn’t been at the last minute.

Something else we’ve been working on this month is the guest book. We knew we wanted a photo book because we wanted it to be something that we would actually look at again. However, I’m a little shy and I really did not want a book with just photographs of us. I knew that would make me self-conscious. So we decided to do a photo book which was a mixture of our engagement photographs and photos of our family and friends.

We used blurb.com to make the book. You have to download their software before you can begin working on the book. The software was pretty easy to use, but it did take me some time playing around with it to figure out how to change lay-outs, font, etc. But I figured the program out, it was relatively simple to upload the photographs and create custom lay-outs mixing text and photos.

Wow, it’s amazing how time can slip by. I know I’ve been MIA, and I apologize for that. It seems that the period between 60 and 30 days before the wedding have been this weird limbo where I felt like I had a lot that needed to be done, but for one reason or another, they could not be done yet. But now, we’re only 37 days away and the wedding is coming up fast! I’ll try to share as much as I can about this last month of our journey toward the wedding.

I’ll be honest, I really did not want a bridal shower. I’m so not comfortable with being the center of attention. All that attention on the wedding day itself is more than enough for me. I told my matron of honor that I did not want a shower, and she has respected my wishes. However, my cousin very much wanted to throw a shower for family and family-friends. I couldn’t say no.

Well, here’s our first diy project. I say ours, but Lotus Dude did most of the work. I photographed, which counts as work too! We decided to use modified French memory boards to display the escort cards.
The needed materials were canvas in the desired size, cotton batting, fabric in your wedding colors, ribbon, staples and a staple gun, scissors, and decorative tacks. We chose to use a small canvas and scrap fabric for the first one just to make sure we knew what we were doing and not wasting good fabric.

I’ve already disclosed the fact that I’m not a particularly crafty person. However, I do sometimes enjoy learning a craft, more for therapeutic purposes than for practical purposes. I knit, but not well. That’s ok because I find it relaxing. A couple months after Lotus Dude proposed to me, I decided to try to teach myself calligraphy from a book. I didn’t actually think that I would be able to use this new skill for any wedding products. I just thought it was something I might enjoy, and that may be relaxing. Plus, with just the cost of the instructional book, a notebook and calligraphy pens, it wasn’t an expensive hobby.

By using the term, The One, I usually mean my man, but this time I mean something almost as important: my dress!
Disclaimer: All posted images are NOT my dress, just ones that I tried on.

Speaking of Karen, she had a wonderful piece of advice on her blog recently about “must take” photo lists. Her advice is especially appropriate for people who like a more photo-journalistic approach to wedding photography and have chosen a photographer who specializes in it. It was perfect timing as I was just beginning to think about this. Karen’s suggestion is to make sure that you have a list of posed photographs you want with various people, and to appoint a family member or close friend who knows everyone to be assistant for these posed photos. This person (or people) would be responsible for gathering the right people at the right time for the right photo!

Where to start? That is certainly the question!
I am so excited to have this wonderful opportunity to blog and share ideas with other brides like myself. I am also looking forward to learning from the Blossoms who will help me prepare for my life as a wife. No rhyming intended.
I have been dubbed Cymbie Bud. I met Cymbie Dude in the Singles class at our church over two years ago. You know how they say that when you meant The One, you know? Well I knew! I was instantly attracted to Cymbie Dude even though I had a boyfriend at the time. Things progressed as we grew to become best friends before ever entering a relationship. I think that’s one reason our love is so strong. We really got to know each other before we dated.
I’ll share more in the posts to come, such as our engagement story and how our wedding planning is going. But tata for now! Can’t wait to write more.

This is one of our oldest pictures, but one of my very favorite!
