About Me:
My fiance and I live in the Washington, DC area and we just got engaged in September. We are planning an intercultural wedding as I am Indian and he is not. We're trying to mesh our lives and our families, while planning a wedding that is both personal and practical. Wish us luck as I'm sure we'll need it! We also want to make sure we keep our lives in balance, and remember that our relationship is more important than one day of celebration and ceremony. I definitely am a fan of spending time with my fiance that is not related to wedding planning! I'm also a fan of knitting, Georgetown basketball, video games, science fiction and fantasy, and vegetarian cooking. Can you tell that I have a geeky side?
How We Met:
We met when I was in Atlanta with my friend (and now matron of honor). We were looking for a place to get away from DC, and since my friend had gone to college in Atlanta, it seemed like a good place. We went to a party Saturday evening and I met Lotus Dude when asking for directions. He was so charming that I continued to chat for the rest of the evening. I even gave him my phone number, though I didn’t really think I would hear from him again because of the distance between Atlanta and D.C. But he called me the next day as I was driving out of Atlanta. We spent the next year getting to know each other over the phone, email and occasional visits. Though long distance relationships have some benefits, it was hard at times. Thankfully, Lotus Dude moved to D.C. in June of 2006.
The Engagement Story:
Lotus Dude told me to keep the evening of September 19th free as it was our 3 and a half year anniversary and he wanted to do something special. I was a little suspicious, but I had recieved half anniversary gifts before so I didn't think too much about it. When I got home from work, there was a note on the door that requested I knock before going in. I knocked, and Lotus Dude opened the door. He had dressed in a suit, rearranged the furniture in the apartment, set out flowers, put on music and cooked an amazing three course meal. After we had finished the meal, he said he was going to get dessert and asked me to close my eyes. When I opened my eyes, there was a bowl full of gummi bears (something I have a horrible weakness for) with a ring box on top! He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said "Yes, of course!"
