How We Met:

Cymbie Dude and I met while in college. We both worked in the same office on campus. People started trying to set us up immediately, though we didn't start dating for over a year. We then kept our relationship top-secret from co-workers for another year and half.

The Engagement Story:

Cymbie Dude likes to say that fate changed his timetable. I like to say that criminals changed his timetable. Our engagement story begins with our home being burglarized. We came home from work to find windows smashed and electronics gone. Police were called. Fingerprints were taken. I went into inconsolable attorney mode. All the while, Cymbie Dude was calm. I couldn't figure out why except that he was being Cymbie Dude, who doesn't lose his cool. The next day, while cleaning fingerprint powder (ugh!), Cymbie Dude came into the living room and said, "We need some good news." I agreed and went back to cleaning. He asked me to sit down on the couch. I asked, "Why?" He repeated himself so I dropped my dust rag and went to the couch. He told me to close my eyes. I asked, "Why?" (see a pattern here). He then told me to pretend we were on vacation in the OBX and that we were at "our" lighthouse (Bodie Island Lighthouse). I opened my eyes to find him in front of me, on one knee, with the ring in his hand. He was crying, which set off my tears. He asked. I said yes. He later explained that my engagement ring was in the house when the bandits broke in. Eeks!
