The {Wedding Guest} Rules of Attire

April 10th, 2012 by

Now that my own wedding is over, I should be stress-free when I hear the word, “wedding,” but as it turns out, I have eight weddings to attend this year! Yes, you read that right, eight!  Go ahead, you can call me a “professional” wedding attender! When I think of the madness of this year, all I can think is, “What am I going to wear?”

As a guest of the wedding,  you have a lot of things to consider when choosing your attire such as the following:

1. Your Budget – If you only want to spend $100 on a dress, you probably shouldn’t even consider going to BCBG because you will be banned to the sale rack at the Outlet, which means a limited selection.  Instead, try department stores that carry a wide variety of designers at every price point or shop local.

2. The Location – Different locations requires different styles and coverage.  A wedding in the middle of the woods of Kentucky in October means you better pick a dress that pairs well with a cardigan and leave the Louboutin stilettos at home!

3. The Time of Day – If you are going to a brunch wedding, you should skip the little black dress (LBD) because it isn’t appropriate.  Think bright, fun colors and make it a little more conservative as grandma will be making an appearance!

4. The Season – This is important because you don’t want to show up to a summer wedding in Miami in a long sleeved lace dress! For one, you will be miserably hot and two, you will be stared at and embarrassed!  When looking for a dress, think about climates and seasonality.

The key takeaway? Look your best, but also do your best to blend in to the crowd!  You don’t want to be “that person” that sticks out like a sore thumb in the wedding pictures!wedding wedding attire etiquette advice , WeddingCrashers 1
