Bridal Shower (part one)

August 5th, 2010 by

Purple is my favorite color, if you don’t already know that, that is critical to knowing me. So when we decided to try out a tearoom for my shower called the Purple Rose. I think my heart already had decided I wanted that to be the location of my bridal shower. It pretty much exceeded my expectations for a shower location. It was cute and quaint and overall just perfect!

Bridesmaids and I

My LOVELY bridesmaids (seen above) planned the entire thing as a surprise. I knew NOTHING of the goings on of the day, except for the location and the time. I would love to share with you every last detail, but I will limit myself to 2 posts, in this one I’ll talk about the outline of the day, and in the next one I’ll detail a few of the ridiculously cute DIY details that my bridesmaids put together for my special day.

I had a wonderful turn out from both my side and Moon Dude’s side, as well as support from my best friends. We all arrived at about noon, and settled in to our tables. Each person found several slips of paper at their seat, that they were to use for the shower prizes — door prize style. Everyone had the High Tea (to be detailed in my next post), and mingled. While everyone was everyone was being served, my Bridesmaids had me hide in the bathroom while guests filled out memory questions about what I was wearing, how I looked, and personal questions (“what is my favorite color?”). Once I returned and the results were tallied, the winners were awarded with extra door prize slips for the prize baskets.

After most everyone was finishing up their food and drinks, we played another game. This game was a variation of the “newlywed game” where prior to the day, Nick answered several questions, and our answers had to match. Some of the questions were:

“What is his/your favorite movie?”
“What is your favorite thing about her?”
“What is the one thing you would save from the house in the event you could save only one thing?” Etc…

There were 15 questions. Each wrong question, I had to chew a piece of Double Bubble Bubble Gum. It was really fun, and although I didn’t do that well, it was really enjoyable and got a lot of laughs.

Near the end of the game; what a wad of gum!

Once that was over, I started opening the presents. I cant believe how fun that was! I was like a child on her birthday all over again! ;-] I got so many very nice, and very generous gifts. I honestly think every one of them will truly go to use! I am greatly excited for a new coffee maker, towels, beautiful veggie knife, serving spoons, house decor, photo albums, and so much more. Two gifts were very personal to me, and I thought I might share them here. My MOH made a book using quotes from all of our friends of love and relationship advice. It was very thoughtful, beautiful, and personal to my heart. I will cherish it forever.

My mother also chose a very sentimental gift. She had a quilt made from all/many of the major personal milestones in my life from T-Shirts. I have shirts in this quilt representing my Highschool, my Highschool Band, my Highschool Musicals, my Senior Trip, my College, My Sorority, My Grad School, Fair Queen Contest, Girlscouts, and 4-H.  We had talked about making one years ago, but never did it. Having her do it for my wedding shower was just perfect. It really means a lot to me, and I love it!

Overall it was a beautiful day, and I could not have asked for anything more. It was PERFECT! I hope you’ll stay tuned for my next post about the details of the DIY and finishing touches that my bridesmaids put into this wonderful event.

Did you play games at yours? What games did you play and how did they go over for your Shower?
