Something Old, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue!

My Two Garters

So I realize I can’t really double (or triple) dip my “somethings”, as my title suggests, but my garters fall into all three of those categories! I havent figured out which “something” I will actually consider them, but surely they will embody special meaning for me, regardless.  You’ll notice there are two, and even though I don’t plan on having a toss, I do want to wear both as each holds a special place in my heart.

Garter one, pictured above on the top was the garter worn by both my mother and her mother on their wedding days. Now this special piece was hidden to me until just recently, I think I recall my mom showing it to me long ago, but it was never mentioned that I would be wearing it. During a discussion of garter #2, she pulled out a duck statue of hers that was sitting right on the desk, and had been for years and years, and opened it up. Wrapped tightly in a plastic bag hidden inside the duck was the garter she wore on her wedding day, the same one that her mother (my grandmother) had worn! My grandmother passed away when I was in highschool, and this will be a nice memorial for her to be with me on my special day. I am proud to wear it for my wedding.

Garter two, pictured below with the ruffles and rhinestones. This garter was worn by one of my good friends at her wedding, one of the first weddings that Moon Dude and I went to together. I got up as my friend-duty to stand for her bouquet toss, and even though I TRIED not to (I swear, I really didn’t), somehow the bouquet volleyed twice off of other ladies, and LITERALLY landed in my hands. Even though Moon Dude wasn’t a big fan of trying to catch the garter, he got up to “defend my honor”. And boy he did the job! The competition for the guys was much more fierce than for the ladies; quite a few guys went up. Moon Dude got right in the middle and when the garter got flung (what appeared to be way over his head) he leaped up and reached as far as he could.  Somehow he managed to catch the center of the flying garter right around his pointer finger, like a ring-toss game! He was so proud of himself that he ran over to me, picked me up, and twirled me around. It was such a special moment for us, and in my head, I think it was then that I knew we were meant to be.
