Wedding Acoustics

June 1st, 2010 by

I’ve always known that I was going to have a band play at my wedding, but what I had not always known was I’d have acoustic problems at my wedding. You see, we’re having our wedding reception at the Carnegie Institute of Science in Washington, D.C. and the dancing/band area will be in the Carnegie’s beautiful, marble rotunda room:

wedding wedding planning, routunda

The problem that we’ve encountered is that while the rotunda room is gorgeous, its not conducive to bands because the sound bounces off the marble floors, walls, and dome ceiling.  The good news is that we had the foresight to pick an incredible band (Black Tie out of D.C.) with a great leader who did me a huge favor and met me at the Carnegie last week to discuss ways to fix the acoustic issues. And, while there is not a whole lot that can be done from the perspective of specific equipment, etc. the meeting left me feeling at ease and really excited about the music for our wedding — just what a bride-to-be needs!

Have you found that your venue isn’t great with acoustics? What did you do to remedy the situation?
