Towie Bear and I are trying to plan a child-friendly wedding. We have siblings and friends that have kids that range from 1 – 13 years old. I’ve been brainstorming on how to design the kids table. I don’t think any decorations should be displayed on this table. We are also thinking of having the kids seat in the back of the ballroom, where it is easy for them to get in and out of their chairs. I am steering towards the idea of giving them activity bags.
Maybe we will handout the following activity bags on their table, before the speeches: coloring books, crayons, dolls, action figures, stickers and paper, puzzles, boards games, etc.
Why before the speeches? Because that’s a challenging time to entertain the kids. Everyone is paying attention to one person that has a microphone. This will most likely be a boring period for the kids, then why not entertain them with games that are age appropriate? This may be a strategy that can enable our adult guests to have a great time at our event while their children are having fun.

We also thought of games that the kids could play in the patio such as Twister and Giant Jenga during cocktail hour. Our wedding venue has a large patio and don’t foresee any issues of having the kids play games outside while our adult guests enjoy drinks and appetizers. What do you think about our strategic plan?

We are planning on doing the same type of thing for the kids that’ll be at our wedding. We’ll have 8-12 kids under 14. All I had come up with so far was coloring books, crayons, and bubbles for the patio. I was considering sidewalk chalk, but figured I should check w/ the venue first. Thanks for the Twister idea.

I think that sounds like a great plan. And it looks like you’ve got the whole range of ages covered. Good luck!

We are making custom rainbow crayons for our kids table- I almost love the kids crafts more than the regular wedding-crafts!
