Save the Date!

April 26th, 2010 by

The first time after our engagement that Moon Dude and I went down to Kitty Hawk to meet with wedding vendors we spent a few days “working” on wedding ideas, with just a little extra time to enjoy it. While down there, we spent some time  taking pictures of us drawing in the sand trying out a plethora of ideas for us to use for our save the dates.  I was very pleased with how they turned out. Take a look:

Several of my “ideas” for sand writing included hearts with our names in it, hearts with our initials in it, “save the date”, and the actual date for the wedding. Let me tell you, it was too challenging for one person to write stuff in the sand, take a photo, and manage to get the timing right so that I could catch a wave in the photo, too. So Moon Dude helped me out by sand writing while I just stood with my finger on the camera shutter. It was a great time for me, because when the waves came in too soon and foiled his hard work, I couldn’t help but giggle, but he was a good sport and kept at it! Once we got home, I had fun playing in Gimp (a free Photoshop alternative–check it out!) dealing with the images we took from our trip. In the end, it was very hard to keep a consistency between the elements in one composite image; I found that including all the different elements led to a cluttered look. So I opted for a more simple image with just the words “Save the Date” and a photo of us. The actual “Save the Dates” are postcard style.  I uploaded it to Vista Print for 100 color postcards, in total (because I had to have color backside for the sepia-toned look) it cost $21. Not too bad! And because they’re postcard size, postage wasn’t full price! I’m quite proud of them!

I LOVE Vista Print and used them for our save the dates and invitations (which I designed myself).

What a great idea! I used http://www.mypostcardprinter.com because they offer the standard glossy postcard. I don’t know if Vista Print does or not, but they’re great too! Loving the Postcard Save the Date trend.
