My “Thing” — Photography |

One of my friends once told me, every bride has their “thing”; the aspect of the wedding that is of utmost importance; the splurge; the detail that gets hours and hours of research. My recently married BM’s “thing” was the invitations–they were gorgeous shimmery embossed and embellished pocketfolds. She went all out creating these beautiful invitations, and people are still talking about them! My “thing” is photography. I guess part of the reason that I place such an emphasis on it is because it is a personal hobby of mine. I mostly just dabble in it for fun, but I enjoy it, and I enjoy appreciating other photographer’s work as well. So picking a photographer was my “thing”. We had to do it right–there are no re-do’s!
I researched quite a few photographers, looking at their websites and making phone calls. During my quest for the perfect photographer, I took into account many different aspects:
1. Overall quality of the photographs
2. Quality of the equipment
3. Quantity of the equipment (More than one camera is a must)
4. Personality (This is someone that will be around us all day, we better like him/her!)
5. Professional

Photography was one of the areas where we basically had no budget….or I should say I. My fiance thought it was an insane amount of money for us to be spending on photography. But like you, I knew how important it was to me and what I wanted from my photographer and her work and am thrilled to have found that. It was actually the 2nd wedding thing we booked. These photographs we are going to have for our entire lives…and the memories they hold will be passed down for generations. I definitely agree it is one area to not cut corners with.

Having a professional photographer is very important. Your photos will last way longer than that cake. A lot of people don’t put the budget they should in to their photos. A lot of people are now registering with their photographer as a wedding registry. So everyone can pitch in a little, its a great idea for destination weddings. Because shipping fragile plates back from far locations is not that smart.

I had my cousin, who was an aspiring photographer do the wedding photos. They turned out great and I didn’t have to spend a fortune on pictures! However, I understand the importance of having great photos on your wedding day.

There are so many things to consider when planning a wedding. Pictures are something you can look back on forever to remember and enjoy. Remember to have lovely items (frames, photo albums ect) to put your wedding pictures in around the house or on your desk. You’ll want to enjoy your wedding pictures on a daily basis for now till “forever”.
