Involving Your Family in Wedding Planning |

Depending on your relationship with your family, their involvement in your wedding planning will probably vary. Some people want their family members to be very involved, and some don’t want them anywhere near the planning process. Personally, I wanted to find a happy medium, and I’d like to share some of the things I’ve done to keep my family involved:
Order a cake from your wedding cake baker for a family affair. I have used my wedding cake baker, Dessert First Cakes, to order cakes for different family occasions. This lets them see and taste the cakes your baker can make, and get them excited about your wedding cake.

Invite family to tastings with your caterer. This way, they get the fun part of trying food, without the stress of worrying about all the other catering decisions.
Find little DIY projects they can do on their own. Don’t give them anything too difficult – there’s no reason to stress your family out. However, giving them little projects (such as welcome bags for the hotels) lets them feel involved and helpful.
Ask them to plan other wedding events. Lavender Blossom wrote a great entry about the rehearsal dinner that her mother in law planned, with all the personal touches she put into the event. Allowing family members to plan these events (such as rehearsal dinners, engagement parties, bridal showers or other events) gives them a time they can make the decisions about the event, as well as use their relationship with you to make a special and personal event.
There’s an endless list of ways to keep your family a part of the wedding, without stepping on each others’ toes or driving each other crazy! Has anyone else tried different things to keep your family involved in different aspects of the wedding?

Cute cakes! Also, I think it’s a fabulous idea to have your mother in law plan the rehearsal dinner…it’s a good way make her feel needed and a part of the planning process
