DIY Honeymoon Travel Kit

January 7th, 2010 by

I recently went to Rome, Italy for a week of vacation fun in Europe’s boot with Calla Lily Dude. It was kind of like a second honeymoon for us, and it was a little longer than our actual honeymoon. For this trip and our honeymoon, I made myself a honeymoon travel kit that came in handy for my general travel needs and all those romantic moments.

The first thing I did for my kit was create personalized travel-size bottles of my regular products such as body wash, shampoo and conditioner. All you have to do is buy an inexpensive travel set like the one below and use clear labels to personalize it (and I just used a few left over labels from other wedding projects, too).

It might be tempting to just buy travel sized products that you don’t regularly use instead of going this route, but you would be surprised how attuned your partner is to your everyday scent and will notice when you don’t smell like yourself. Calla Lily Dude doesn’t always notice when I’ve gotten a haircut, but he always notices that my hair smells different when I come back from the salon. Plus, your honeymoon is not the time to find out that you have a sensitivity or allergic reaction to a certain product or ingredient, so stick with what you know!

If you are going to be road-tripping it at all, I suggest that you bring enough CDs or an mp3 player with the proper car adapter to fill the time in the car. We registered for an mp3 player car adapter in our honeymoon registry, and got it, but his parents let us use their Prius as part of their gift to us, and the adapter ended up not working with it. Trust me, you don’t want finding a radio station to cause your first married fight!

Your honeymoon is not like any other vacation, so don’t pack like it is. Just keep in mind anything out of the ordinary you might be doing on your honeymoon and accommodate it in your travel kit. Thinking about this before hand really helped me have a worry-free honeymoon so I could concentrate on more important things.
