Designating the Destination: Part 2 |

I am happy to report that Dogwood Dude and I found every single one of our parameters when searching for our destination wedding! The Key Largo Grande Resort & Beach Club is an hour from Miami Airport, budget friendly for us and our guests (especially for those Hilton Rewards Members), has two amazing 3rd floor rooms overlooking the ocean in case of rain, has a beach covered in arching hammock trees….and PLENTY to do! The funny thing is that so many people ask me how we chose Key Largo, which seems so remote to most, and I always tell them…we just had five parameters!
Here are some pics!

Gorgeous venue! I love the light fixtures in the room overlooking the ocean!

Thanks Meg! The lighting fixture was by far one of my favorite parts of the room! When it is all set up, our dance floor will actually sit right below them.

That is beautiful! I just love the color of the water down there. I got married just below Key Largo in Islamorada – Keys weddings are fantastic!

hi there ladies! i am getting married in key largo in October..myoriginal wedding venue (Snooks) has burned down
I’m now deciding between the Hilton & the Marriott..can you give me any information as to how the Hilton went? I’m a little nervous of the price (a little higher) and seems to be random charges here & there that pop up…but it’s a gorgeous view. anypics/info you can share?

Hi Tiffany! Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures to share just yet, our wedding isn’t until July 9. I will say this… after visiting both the Marriott and the Hilton, the Hilton won hands down! I would say the biggest factor though in choosing the Hilton was that the Catering Manager, Charlene Lopez, is a certified wedding planner and offers her services for free. Living up in DC, that was a huge plus for me. She has been fabulous to work with and has made the whole planning process so much easier! She has so many connections down in that area! We are working on a tight (read: small) budget and she has been more than accommodating. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Thanks Dogwood Bud! I missed the whole July wedding piece–duh! I agree..planning from afar is very difficult (i live in AZ, but my family is in Key Largo). I’m so confused! They are both beautiful locations, but have a different feel! I am very familiar with the Marriott grounds, and haven’t been to the Hilton in liek 15 years…so hard to remember. my family took loads of video, and it’s gorgeous, but something is bothering me and i can’ figure out what it is! But the Marriott isn’t perfect either (can u tell i’m confused!!) And..the Hilton is about $2K higher than the Marriott, which of course makes it more difficult! It’s good to hear that Charlene is so dedicated–she has been very helpful thus far! so..it was Charlene that made the difference for you? And i love the beach bbq idea!

Tiffany, have you considered a smaller venue? I’m getting married at the Coconut Palm Inn in Tavernier, in December. It’s a very small resort – just 17 rooms. Some of the rooms are multi-bedroom, so maybe 50 people max can stay on-site. (You have to commit to booking ALL the rooms for two nights, but that’s exactly what I wanted – to take over the entire place for the weekend.) But they can handle weddings of up to 200 people. It’s bayfront, and all the rooms are directly on the beach. Very nice, intimate beach with two separate areas – one for cocktail reception, another for the dinner. The wedding coordinator, Kathy, has been wonderful to work with so far. Good luck, wherever you end up!

Hi, I’ve been looking into having a Key Largo wedding (on a budget). So far I’ve been emailing Charlene Lopez about the Hilton. But it is pricier than I had hoped (still not off my list though). I’m going to still look into the Marriot, but now I’m curious about the Coconut Palm Inn. How much is it to rent the entire hotel out? I feel like that would be pretty expensive. I’m not too sure on how many people I would have attending (anywhere from 30-50) Any information would be such a great help! Thanks

Okay so I just looked at the Marriott and and saw you have to have a minimum of 75 guests?
