Color, Color, Kuler

November 10th, 2009 by Gardenia Bud

I’ve been having the most difficult time trying to figure out what colors I want for my wedding. It seems no matter who I talk to, the question always comes up – “so, what are your colors?”

I’ve always known I want to incorporate green into my wedding, but more than that I do not know.  I’ve considered green and gray, green and brown, or even just green and ivory (though that might be a little boring)…people keep urging me to add something bolder, but I’ve been hesitant.

In my research I managed to find this great site that allows me to play around with different color combination: Kuler. Fantastic resource, but somehow I’m left even more confused…. HELP!

If you like green & ivory, but fear that’s too boring, add black accents. It gives that bold touch people look for and still satisfies your color tastes!

If you want to use green, look to nature! What color are your favorite plants and flowers? Consider the combos that nature already gives you and use that as your inspiration. Look at things with green that you already own and see if there are any patterns in the shade or color combos that stand out to you, you may have the perfect color palette right under your nose.

I always thought I would have a purple wedding because it is my favorite color, but I kept an open mind when I started looking for paper for my DIY invitations. I fell in love with a copper colored paper, and that became “my color” instantly. I think just like finding the right partner, dress, venue, etc., you’ll know when you have found the right color. :-)

My suggestion is to refer to things that you love. Let’s say that you have a favorite restaurant; a dress that you use for every special occasion; a picture that you refer to every time you want to remember something that makes you happy; or a store that you absolutely love going to. Do you ever wonder why you love these places or things? Maybe there is color in that restaurant or in a dress or even in that store that you love so much that could potentially be the color of your wedding.

    I hope this post helps!

My accent color is sage green. My colors are Victorian Lilac and Eggplant. If you like purple at all these colors look really nice together. I promise you…not in the least bit Barney like.

I hope this was somewhat helpful
