Oh, my heart goes at to you. I hope you feel better after writting about it. It can be a good release to let it out by talking or writting about it.

And your decision didn't let me down. It's always nice to have a plan B up our sleeves. :^)

Periwinkle-> thanks! Writing about it definitely helps! It helps to remind us all that we are bonded not just by weddings, but by life!
Nicky... I hear you I hear you I hear you!! It gets really tiring wandering how they will behave, who will be caught in the crossfire, and how you will come out at the end! If you are worried about your dad drinking (to be honest, by the time I got to my wedding, I didn't even care, it really was more about the walking down the aisle, although he did go on to embarass me by getting drunk, tying his tie around his head, and dancing like a pervert!!), I would DEFINITELY ask someone to be on the watch. This is what we did at my sister's wedding (although no major problems came up), but if possible, I would suggest asking someone who wouldn't be as emotionally affected as I am sure your sister would be (cousin? friend's boyfriend? uncle?). If you can find someone you trust, you can leave it in their hands. Try not to take it on yourself... ya right, easier said than done right!! I repeat: I hear you I hear you I hear you!! Keep your chin up!

I am so sorry about this. It would have been torture for you.
I have the same problem with my Dad.
I am really glad I read this post, it's made me feel like I am not alone.

For my fiance to turn around and say "The only worry that I have about the wedding, is that your Dad f-s it up".
At my deb (a ball in senior secondary college) he threw up on his dinner plate, in front of EVERYone. At my sisters engagement lunch he made her cry.
Being around him and his casks of wine makes me have anxiety attacks.

I have no idea how I am meant to control him at our wedding. He was quite well behaved at my sisters, but her reception only went for 2hrs and was in the middle of the day.....
Can I ask my sister to "be in charge" of him? Or should I just forget about it all and just let him be and TRY to enjoy the night????

I am most scared of him saying something insulting to one of my inlaws family members and they would maybe throw a punch! They don't know he has a drinking problem..... They don't know that he becomes completely inappropriate when drunk.

Oh god help me

Oh, Geranium - I am sorry to hear you had to go through such drama on your wedding day of all days! :( Your advice is priceless, though, so thanks for sharing even though I'm sure it was painful for you to revisit such a hard experience.
