Here Comes the Story of a Hurricane

October 21st, 2009 by

For the past 2 years or so, I’ve had my mind set on getting married in September (yes, since before I was engaged). September is a gorgeous month in D.C. – the summer heat has passed but the chill of fall has not yet set in. The only issue with September is hurricanes. Now I know I do not live on the coast, but as you all know, whenever a hurricane hits the coastline, we all get soaked!

This hurricane season reminded me to panic about the weather on my wedding day!! There are of course more important things to worry about and I know I can do nothing about this, but I really hope hurricane season is short next year (and I really hope I didn’t just jinx myself either)!!

My future sister-in-law Lisa shared this site with me when I was trying to narrow down my wedding date: Wedding Planner. Thanks to this tool, I am able to see that the weather the past 3 September 25ths.  Too bad it can’t predict the future weather forecast – though, as Lisa keeps reminding me – there are some really cute wedding pictures that involve the use of umbrellas!

These images look awesome! There may be a couple of vendors in your area that have those really cool vintage umbrellas. The one in my area is Bella Umbrella and I think she ships her umbrellas around the state. The following is her website: http://www.bellaumbrella.com/

What a great way to make lemonade out of lemons! ;) As brides we tend to obsess over every detail and sometimes forget that not everything is under our control…. this is a great example of what we cannot control and how to just go with the flow! BTW, Sept 25 is my mom’s birthday so I’m sure it will be nice weather for you. :)

Rainy day weddings can be fun!! That is, if you have a Photographer who doesn’t mind getting wet ;) Whenever I have a rainy day wedding to photograph, I tell my bride to prepare to do things a little bit differently. I love incorporating the rain INTO the images. After all, it is YOUR wedding day & the weather is part of it- rain, sun, sleet or snow!

That first rain image was taken in Savannah, Georgia. It only rained for 30 minutes & it just happened to be during the middle of the outdoor ceremony! We threw up a few umbrella’s & continued shooting. It wasn’t what she envisioned for her wedding day but it’s what we got. It was my job to show her how beautiful it truly was, in spite of the rain!
