Different shades of blue

September 1st, 2009 by

Since the beginning, I’ve always wanted my bridesmaids to choose their own dresses, as long as they’re navy blue. But I’ve seen many bridal parties now sporting different colors or different shades of a certain color. And I’m liking it.

The problem with my bridal party is that I only have 2 bridesmaids and the impact won’t be as beautiful as those above. So I’m still trying to decide whether I’ll have them wear same shade or not.

What do you think?

I originally wanted my MOH in one color and the lone bridesmaid in another, but thought it would look awkward with all three of us in different colors. I decided on the same dress for them w/ different color sashes.

I think the different dresses look works best with a larger bridal party. It’s easier to let 4 or 5 girls pick their own dresses because they can find something to suit each of their body types. Unless your two bridesmaids are a size 2 and a size 20, it should be easier to find one dress that flatters both of them, and you will all look more streamlined. Just my opinion. =)

I love the idea…even with 2 bridesmaids. Just reinforce the shades of blue with your decor :-)

I also love the idea of different shades (or cuts of dress), even with just a few bridesmaids or attendants. You could have the groomsmen (if you have the same number) each mirror one of the shades of blue in their “accessories” to keep some uniformity going. But, as always, do what feels right to you!

I LOVE this idea. I was struggling with my bridesmaid dresses because I was trying to find 4 dresses for my girls in the same color, but putting them in different shades of blue solves my problem! thanks for the post!

In the case of only having two bridesmaids, maybe it would look nice if you had them in the same dress but in different color blues? That way there would be uniformity but you’d be able to play with color. I hope that helps!
