The Making of a Wedding Program

August 20th, 2009 by

Over the weekend, we spent some time finishing the assembly of one of our last craft projects for the wedding….the programs!!! We’ve actually been working on it for the past week little by little and it’s so much fun to see it all come together! Let me try to recap, what we did to put our little guidebook together.

Materials used:
-Resume Paper
-Brown Paper (for the covers)
-Vellum paper
-A very resilient little ink printer
-Ribbons
-Thread and needle for the binding
-Several sticks of glue
-And a talented designer

First up, we had to decide on what and how we wanted the inside pages of the program. We kept with the vintage look and the blue and brown color theme. Once we had a template, it was a joint effort in writing up the content. We wanted to make sure it made for some interesting reading for our guests so we included details about ourselves, the ceremony, our wedding party, the casino charity event, the night’s food menu, and even a Q&A section about us. Using all that information plus a few pictures from our engagement photoshoot, we we’re ready to go to the print! It took a few good hours and a lot of printer ink, but we finally got them all printed on a thicker resume paper which we then folded and cut. Phew. Phase 1 done.

Part 2 was creating the vellum print that would overlay the other pages. We kept it simple and just put our name and date on it so that the focus would be on the picture peaking through. Vellum paper can be bought at most office supply stores and really adds a nice touch to any design.

On to the covers…. first we cut and folded some brown cardstock. For the focal point of the cover, we used the extra printouts of our wedding logo that have been incorporated throughout our wedding projects. I had the fiance glue these on since I seem to have crooked eyes and can never glue things on straight.

To bind everything together, we used needle and thread to pull all the pages together with the cover. It sounds a little more tedious than it really is and I actually found it to be one of the most enjoyable steps.

After we were done, it still looked a bit plain, so I went out and cleaned Michael’s craft store out of some ivory ribbon to tie around the cover.

And there you have it…our wedding program! We hope the guests will like them!

Amazing! Are you happy to share your template?
Also, did you print your photos on paper with a regular printer, or with a photo-printer?

This may sound silly, but what was on the other pages in this program? I know what needs to be in the program but if you could tell me what order if that is possible? Thanks!

We had the following content: Our picture, a welcome note, listing of bridal party, ceremony and reception timeline, Q&A section, thank you message, and a poem.
