The Dreaded Countdown

July 12th, 2009 by BridalBuds

Like many of you, I LOVE the handy services on Weddingwire.com’s site.  I have found the guest list function extremely helpful, and I like that I can also allow some family members to go in and alter addresses, etc.

However, does anyone else find this part of it a bit stressful?:

The COUNTDOWN makes me nuts!  Obviously I know when the wedding is…I’m not going to accidentally forget about it.  Imagine myself waking up with 10 days to go and thinking “there was something I had to do next week….hmmm…what was that again?”  Whenever I log in and see that number counting down, it makes me feel more stressed than necessary!  I’m not even stressed (anymore, teehee) but something about that number dropping steadily (DAILY) makes me think ohmygodohmygodohmygod.

In the beginning, I loved seeing that number drop, when it got under 100 I was so excited.  However…I seem to be getting constant reminders about wedding dates.  (brides: anyone else find that the first thing everyone says to you when they see you is “how are the wedding plans coming”?)  I love that support and interest, but I’m finding that it’s hard to think of anything BUT the wedding countdown.

This month, I want to sit back, relax, and enjoy my last few months as an unmarried woman.  I want to relish in what Dude and I like to do, and not constantly think that the wedding is a ticking time bomb with an activated countdown!  Meg from A Practical Wedding just wrote a neat post about paying attention in these last few months leading up to the wedding.

I encourage you late-summer/fall brides to do the same thing!  And um…who knows how to get rid of the countdown!?

I hated the countdown/to-do list on the Knot. Everytime you log in, the number shows up. Totally annoying and stressful! I just stopped checking it!

i had a tenuous love-hate relationship with ALL of the various timers we had going prior to W-Day. not sure if there’s a way to remove the weddingwire countdown from the dashboard, i didn’t really try that hard i guess, haha. although the quickly decreasing countdown made me anxious at times, it was a good kind of anxious — especially when the count got REALLY low and i realized i’d never again get the chance to count down the days until i would marry the love of my life. :) enjoy those decreasing days!!!
