I know I’ve been M.I.A. these past few weeks, but I have some pretty good excuses. Including having company, moving, going to Baltimore for our second reception and then a crazy parking garage disaster at my office. (Thankfully I did not lose my car, but seven of my coworkers were not so lucky.)

Apologies aside– I’ve got my pro pics back and it’s time to start recapping!

You may be wondering why I chose the image above and title of my post. That would be, my friends, because I did something really really dumb before my wedding. I forgot to bring my driver’s license with me. While I did have my passport, which enabled me to board the plane/cruise ship and obtain a wedding license, not having the driver’s license affected me in a number of ways.

  • I couldn’t pick up our rental car, which was booked under my name and driver’s license, which meant:
    • Our reservation, which was made under Priceline, was no longer valid
    • Plumeria Dude and I had to wait in the Miami airport Alamo lobby for over an hour
    • A very frustrated and upset Plumeria Bud, who alternate yelled on the phone at various customer service representatives and seethed in silence. (They did give us a car– a Lincoln Town Car! — and Priceline refunded most of my money.)
    • I couldn’t drive the car either.
  • I couldn’t pay with a check at the Clerk of Circuit Court to get our marriage license– we had to find an ATM.
  • All of my family members mocked me mercilessly. OK, this was not that bad, especially when I figured out that I had left it with my running gear. Oops!

It was that kind of night.

It was that kind of night.

Luckily, a lot of our families and friends were already in Islamorada and very forgiving of the delays, even though it was all my fault. We gathered at the wedding venue, which was also the home base for my immediate and quite a bit of my extended family, for cocktails and appetizers. At one point Plumeria Dude and his brother were in one of the pools, and they managed to coax me in before I decided it was too cold (hey, it was windy!) and got out. The fun, relaxing night was just what I needed after a stressful day.

I’m in the Atlanta area and saw the parking garage collapse on the news. That was crazy!

I’m glad you weren’t hurt (or your car). Stinks about your coworkers though.
