Learning a Craft for the Wedding |

I’ve already disclosed the fact that I’m not a particularly crafty person. However, I do sometimes enjoy learning a craft, more for therapeutic purposes than for practical purposes. I knit, but not well. That’s ok because I find it relaxing. A couple months after Lotus Dude proposed to me, I decided to try to teach myself calligraphy from a book. I didn’t actually think that I would be able to use this new skill for any wedding products. I just thought it was something I might enjoy, and that may be relaxing. Plus, with just the cost of the instructional book, a notebook and calligraphy pens, it wasn’t an expensive hobby.

Well, I have enjoyed the calligraphy exercises in the book. And I do find the practicing relaxing. An added bonus is that after a couple months of practice, I can actually do a decent job. I’m not fast by any means. And I make more than the occasional mistake. But the finished products are certainly acceptable. I definitely think that I will be using this new-found skill for the escort cards. I briefly thought about doing all the invitations too, but then remembered that I have more than 100 invitations to send! But it would certainly be a do-able project if the guest list was smaller. I did hand address one invitation with my calligraphy pen, and here is a photograph:

If anyone is wondering, no, I don’t know the President and First Lady. However, anyone can send them a wedding invitation and may receive a congratulatory card in return. That seems like it will be a great keepsake!
Anyone else come through the wedding planning process with a new hobby or skill that you feel like you’ll be able to continue to use?
