Food, Glorious Food

July 4th, 2009 by

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for myself and Paradise Dude.  Last weekend he went to watch the British Grand Prix, leaving me to fend for myself, and then this week I had my graduation ceremony for the degree that I finished in January (long wait I know). This meant that families were up, driving us mad with endless questions about the wedding, which I’m sure that we’ve answered before or can’t answer yet, like who’s staying in which rooms in the hotel. “Well dad…” my answer started, “how can I know that if I haven’t had all the RSVP’s back yet?” Sensible answer I thought.

But, the two wedding big things that we did get sorted this week, without too much hair pulling and stress, was my first dress fitting and the wedding menu. The dress fitting aside, the menu tasting was something that I was looking forward to, well mainly the dessert part, as I have a huge sweet tooth and love chocolate. And out of the five desserts that we had listed, two included chocolate.

When choosing which dishes to taste (I think we had about twenty to choose from for each course), it made me wonder the importance of the wedding menu. Do we choose something that we like or that our guests would approve of? For example, the dessert, I love chocolate desserts but should we choose something more neutral or fruity to suit older taste buds? On the day, will myself and Paradise Dude actually want to eat and have time to enjoy the meal?

At the end of it, we decided that our guests would enjoy any food that they are given and once we saw the outstanding presentation of the food, and of course the taste, I knew that we would have no worries.

In the end we narrowed our choices down to five desserts, three main courses and five desserts. All tasted amazing and surprisingly we all agreed on the choice of Fillet of Smoked Trout with a Lime and Mango Salsa, followed by Seared Collops of Beef with Crushed Potatoes, Sugar Snapped Peas, Baby Carrots and a Maderia Jus. Then for dessert we will either go for Iced Dark Chocolate Parfait with White Chocolate Sauce or Strawberry Shortcake with Strawberry Sorbet, Red Fruit Coulis. We can’t decide whether to give our guests the choice of dessert or just one? But then we need to take into consideration that our wedding cake will be chocolate too! Maybe the wedding theme should have been chocolate?

Anyway, we still have time to alter the menu and as we approach 4 months til our wedding, there is still lots to do. Next week I’m off to my parents in London to sort out the bridesmaid dresses, which I’m not sure if I’m looking forward to. And then once I’m back we’ll be setting up our gift list. So it’s busy times and I’ll update you all with how I get on….
