Great Photography Advice |

Speaking of Karen, she had a wonderful piece of advice on her blog recently about “must take” photo lists. Her advice is especially appropriate for people who like a more photo-journalistic approach to wedding photography and have chosen a photographer who specializes in it. It was perfect timing as I was just beginning to think about this. Karen’s suggestion is to make sure that you have a list of posed photographs you want with various people, and to appoint a family member or close friend who knows everyone to be assistant for these posed photos. This person (or people) would be responsible for gathering the right people at the right time for the right photo!
But she advises against a list like those you see on many websites which is a list of supposedly spontaneous moments throughout the day which are actually posed. Karen explains it much better than I can, so you can read her post. But basically, if you have hired a professional, especially one who is skilled at a photo-journalistic style, let them do the job you hired them for.
This sounds perfect to me. I have a giant family, and many family friends with whom I want to make sure we have photographs. But the last think I want to do is spend the entire day posing for photographs. And I want photographs that truly reflect the day as it happens, for better or worse!
