As I Lay Me Down to Sleep

June 13th, 2009 by

It’s official, I have reached the stage in wedding planning where you start to have nightmares about the big day. I’ve heard tale of such a time from friends and Hydrangea Bud, but I never thought it would happen to me.

For the most part, I have had mild dreams like not being able to wear my gorgeous 4-inch pumps, forgetting my vows, crying so hard I get the hiccups, and DIY makeup gone bad.

But my latest wedding nightmare really shook me… I dreamed that my venue was renovated and it was even better than before, until I walked into the bathroom. There in the stall was a toilet with a black toilet seat!!!

While this might not sound scary to most folks, this is enough to cause me a lot of anxiety. I know it’s strange, but I have a crazy irrational fear of black toilet seats and will have a panic attack if I don’t get out of the bathroom in question. I have had this crazy fear ever since I can remember. So, it is literally my worst nightmare to have this happen to me…

After being freaked out by this nightmare, I looked into ways to deal with nightmares and this website was very helpful. It’s been about a week that I have been wedding nightmare-free, and I want to keep it that way!

Its ok about the black toilet seats…my guy once had a nightmare about boxes that were multiplying. Nightmares are always fun when you look at it out of context and in regards to someone else, but when they’re yours they’re terrifying – even if it is only an enlarging room or a black toilet seat. Congrats on being nightmare free!

Beleive it or not , I also Have a panic attack about black toilet seats! And metal and wood too, but mostly black! I’m scared that their gonna suck me down and they look kinds freaky too me. Alot people tell me that I should be on a type of anxiety medicine for it.

I’m not the only one! I’ve had a fear of black toilet seats since I was little. One day my family stopped at a rest area. I was too short to use a urinal, so I went into a stall. This was back in the ’70′s, so it was common to find black seats. Anyway, I lifted the seat, used it, then flushed.(Big mistake) First of all, I was about the same height as the toilet with the seat up. Secondly, the contrast of that black seat with the gap in the middle on that white bowl looked scary. Third, there was a echo in the bathroom. And fourth, the toilet flushed really loud and it got stuck. So here’s this toilet flushing over and over in this loud bathroom with a black seat that looks like it’s after me. To make matters worse, since I pushed the door to get in the stall, I had to pull to get out. I’m inside pushing and can’t get out. So to this day, I think about that when I go to a public restroom.
