Cake, Part II |

Well, I am happy to say that our cake tasting experience went much better this time. We had three cake tasting appointments in one day. Surprisingly, I haven’t yet developed a disliking for cake! All of the cake we tasted was quite tasty, and everyone seemed reasonably professional, which was refreshing. But we all agreed that there was a clear winner, which certainly made this an easy decision to make. It was the only actual bakery we tried. Everyone else ran there business out of their home. But we liked the owner of the bakery, we liked the examples of their work, the bakery was super busy (which I take to be a good sign), and we could see actual cakes in the store waiting for delivery as well as photographs. Lotus Dude liked that all the people working on the cakes seemed happy. It was like Columbus’ version of Ace of Cakes
Even better, he was the most reasonably priced out of all the options we looked at.
So our cake will come from Short North Piece of Cake. It will look sort of like this, with color changes:
Now the only cake related task we have left is choosing flavors. Mmm… I think that might be more difficult than I previously thought. Almost everything we tasted was delicious. We’ve decided on chocolate with hazlenut filling and almond with raspberry filling for the tiered cake. We can choose two flavors for the sheet cake. Oh, what a difficult life I lead!

Thanks! I think we’re going to do silver ribbon and green for the design. The baker also doesn’t charge a rental fee for the stand (everyone else we talked to charged more than I thought it was worth) so we’ll probably use a gold cake stand.

kristina, I’m not sure about the original cake in the photo but the Baker did ours with buttercream. I’ll be able to post photos of our cake soon, but it looked great and a lot like the sample in the photo except for the colors.
