My Perfect Shoe: Right Under my Nose

April 11th, 2009 by

Hi Friends!  I can’t wait to follow up on my search for the perfect shoe. You may have seen me lusting over these in last week’s post.  With the wonderful help of Pansy Bud and BB readers, I’ve realized that I can make this shoe thing happen.

For some reason, ‘dyed shoes’ conjures this image of 80′s proms and puffy sleeved bridesmaid dresses.  Are you with me?  So I dismissed that idea, and started searching far and wide for the perfect green-coloured satin shoe.  Not easy!  There are not a lot of green shoes out there to begin with – nevermind finding one with the perfect peep toe, heel height, and embellishments!

So, I started to learn about dying shoes with handy articles here and here.  Thinking this was the route for me, naturally I started an exhausting search on the internet for dye-able shoes.

I’m not sure what made me wise up, but yesterday I smartened up and just got in the car and went to an ACTUAL shop (online shoppers, check this out).  I went back to the store I got my dress, Becker’s bridals.

As it turns out, they have a fabulous shoe section, which I had previously dismissed because they were all white (silly).  Yesterday I was able to speak to the man who dyes the shoes in shop.  He said he could dye the shoes to almost the exact colour I want (I have a ribbon swatch to show him), AND add any embellishments, like a pretty bow or swarovski crystals in any colour.  The best part: the whole thing will cost about $100 for my custom shoe, because since I bought my dress at Beckers, they will give me 10% off!   So it seems, my perfect shoes were right under my nose.

Now, I have to gather together some pictures to help my shoe designer craft up the perfect thing!

Did any of you find that exactly what you were looking for was closer than you thought?
