DIY: OOT Guest Hotel Bags

April 22nd, 2009 by

My OOT bags are done!  Here they are.  They just need to be filled…

Step 1:  Ordered the plain canvas totes from Cheaptotes.com.  I ordered 25 bags for $37.54 with shipping.  I also considered making them with some cute vintage fabrics that I had left over from past projects, but thought this would be more time efficient.

Step 2:  I did this the hard way, because I didn’t know what I exactly wanted to do with them.  I used 1 Gocco screen and just changed out the paint colors after cleaning them each time.   If I had known before what I wanted to do, I would have done 1 screen with California written 4 times, then used the ink blocking material between each word and used the different colors.  Also, make sure you are using fabric paint.

Step 3:  Because I appreciate our friends and family traveling to our wedding I wanted to add a little thank you tag.  I bought some tags at Michaels and used our left over morning coffee to stain them.

Step 4: Once they dried, I stamped a little VW bus and a “thank you” on it.

Step 5:   I let them completely dry and then added some craft ribbon to tie them on to the bags.  On the inside we are going to write little welcome notes, with the weekend itinerary on it.

They turned out better than I could imagine!  I’ll be taking them with me to California in April when I go for my shower, so I’ll have one less thing to bring with me in June.

They will be filled with:

-First Aid Kit (bandages, aspirin, sunscreen, etc)

-Bumble and Bumble Shampoo and Conditioner Samples (where I work carries Bumble and Bumble exclusively, so I ordered some samples)

-See’s Candy

-Trail Mix

-Orange Crush

-Water

-Beef Jerky

-Pretzels

-Maps and a special brochure of places we love to go in Southern California made by Dandelion Dude
