DIY: Cork Board Monogram Signs

April 21st, 2009 by

My supervisor bought cork board for her home office, but then ended up not using it. Because she couldn’t return it and knowing I love DIY projects, she brought it to work and gave me several 12×12 cork boards… I accepted them with delight, but was unsure of how I could use them…

Then, with a little inspiration from Pansy Bud’s awesome DIY flower monogram project, I had an idea. When you enter our venue, there is a short hallway leading to double doors before you get to the main room, so I decided to create something to decorate the double doors. Here a close up on the finished project:

Supplies: 12×12 cork boards, 12×12 wallpaper (or card stock), decorative paper, scissors, glue or Mod Podge, paint brush or sponge brush, ruler, pencil, market or computer with word processing program and printer

1. Using the pencil or word processing program, create the monogram letter to a size of your liking. I created my letters using Microsoft Word using the same font as our save the dates and invitations. My letters are approximately 8.5 inches tall and 6 inches wide, for a 12×12 cork board. If you used pencil, trace it with the marker. If you used the computer, print it out. Either way, cut out your letters.

2. Take your wallpaper or card stock and flip it decorative side down. On the back, use the ruler and pencil to trace a square 1/2 inch shorter than your cork board and cut it out.

3. Use the paintbrush or sponge brush to apply glue or Mod Podge to the back of your wallpaper and glue it to the center of the cork board, leaving a 1/2 margin around the edge.

4. Glue your letter to the center of the wallpaper. I added a boarder using spare paper after cutting out the letters.

5. Let it all dry and you’re all done!

This was an easy way to add a personal touch to our venue!

I still have six more cork boards, so I might just create more decor for the venue… any suggestions?

I used metallic-looking paper from Papaerandmore.com. They have a wide array of great paper!
