A Presidential Invitation

April 30th, 2009 by

One of the many challenges brides find themselves tasked with is keeping the guest list under control.  For some this is easy, and for some of us (*ahem*) this is easier said than done.  If cost was not a factor, I would invite anyone and everyone who would truly be happy to celebrate with Periwinkle Dude and me.  Unfortunately, “the more the merrier” mentality isn’t really practical in wedding planning and sometimes tough decisions have to be made.  While we can’t host everyone we’d like, there is one frivolous invite Periwinkle Dude and I were excited to get out…

President and Mrs. Obama

That’s right… we’re inviting The Obamas to our wedding and so can you!  Word on the net is that if you send a wedding invitation in to the White House, you’ll receive a personalized keepsake letter response signed by The President and First Lady!

Mail invitation to:
The Honorable Barack Obama and Mrs. Obama
The White House
Greetings Office Room 39
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, DC 20500
Or fax to: 202-395-1232

I’ve heard requests take at least 6 weeks to process, and we only sent our invitation out this week so while I can’t verify this rumor I’m hopeful for a response and I’ll definitely keep you posted!

Apparently you can also invite The Pope, The Queen of England, and various celebrities in similar ways!  For those of you who want a signed picture from The Magic Kingdom, send invitations to:

Mickey and Minnie Mouse
The Walt Disney Company
500 South Buena Vista St.
Burbank, CA 91521

Has anyone else invited any high-powered politicians, religious figureheads or celebrities to their wedding?  Did you get any responses?

I am definitely inviting the president–that’s the one wedding detail I’ve been planning on for years. ;) Inviting the others would certainly be fun, too!

Who knew you could do such a thing! I think I’m going to do it and put the responses on the guest book table for kicks and giggles!

I’ve actually read that for weddings you must send in your request after the event has occurred (and will then receive a congratulatory note).

I believe this is the same for birthdays (maybe just monumental ones?? my Grandparents received 90th birthday cards from the White House) and birth announcements. :) How fun to receive official mail from the White House!!
