DIY: Thank You Cards

wedding do it yourself, diy thank you card

Taken by me!

As I’ve mentioned before, I am a bit of a DIY newbie. I did seriously consider DIYing our wedding invitations but in the end, decided that it would be too complicated/stressful. But making my own thank you cards is much simpler and in the end, allows me to put my stamp (har-har!) on some of our wedding correspondence.

Here are the supplies I used for this project:

  • 4 bar foldover cards in Luxe Fino Cream by Paper Source
  • Thanks stamp from Paper Source
  • Palm tree punch from Michaels
  • Brown cardstock from Target
  • Glue stick from Target
  • Clear embossing powder from Paper Source
  • Embossing powder heat tool from Paper Source
  • Brown pigment ink pad from Paper Source
  • Coffee filter to catch excess embossing powder
  • Newspaper to protect tabletop
  1. My first step was to punch out a bunch of palm trees out of the brown cardstock.

2. Next I used the glue stick to put sticky stuff on the back of the palm tree. I like the wrinkle-free glue sticks. (That white stuff is ink from a test sheet.)

3. Affix the punchout to your card and make sure to press hard on the edges.

4. Next, ink your stamp evenly on the ink pad, and press it onto the card. Make sure to press down evenly on the stamp without rolling it, as that can cause smearing.

5. Shake a generous amount of embossing powder over the freshly-inked area. I’m using a coffee filter because I used it to catch excess powder from the previous card.

6. Shake the excess embossing powder off. If you need to, use a paintbrush to brush away around the edges.

7. Use an embossing powder heat tool at a 45-degree angle to activate the embossing powder. When it’s ready, the ink will be shiny and raised. And you’re done!

Very cute. Very cute. I’ve tried embossing before- but never to my satisfaction. How do you keep the embossing powder from sticking to the card from static?

  2. Dandelion Bud Says:

It looks really cool and easy. You’ve inspired me to buy some embossing tools and supplies to do my shower thank yous.

  3. Plumeria Bud Says:

Thank you ladies! Pansy Bud, I didn’t have any trouble with static on these cards– maybe it is the texture? You might want to experiment with different types of cardstock. And Dandelion Bud, that was my intention– to make crafting a little more accessible for the less artistic among us.

The cool part about embossing/stamping is that you can reuse the supplies in a million different ways. I’ve also decorated gift bags and made favor tags using them, and I’m sure I will have more uses for them before the wedding is over.

Those are adorable! And it doesn’t even look that hard!
