Dress You Up in My Love (Part II) |

Once I figured out what type of wedding gowns look awful on me, it wasn’t too long until I learned what flatter my body type.

From sophiatolli.com
It turned out that sweetheart necklines worked best for my decolletage– mustn’t hide my light under a bushel. Gowns that nipped in at the waist and were somewhat hip-hugging– to my surprise — also worked well. As a girl with hips, I was always taught to go for full and A-line skirts to disguise my curves, but it turns out that a more fitted silhouette looks better. So I ruled out ballgowns and the poofier of the A-lines.
I visited six boutiques in all (!!) but only a couple would let me take photos, unfortunately. But I’ll show you stock photos of some of the ones I remember from the other places. A few of my early favorites were from Sophia Tolli’s line.

At that point Plumeria Dude (who actually accompanied me to the first dress shop– horror of horrors!) and I hadn’t chosen a wedding venue yet, so I didn’t want to commit to anything. I visited another boutique that had several choices from Anjolique. Apologies in advance for the bad hair– it was hot that day and I wanted it off my neck.
I loved the shape, draping and material of this gown. However, I felt like it was too much bling for me, especially at the bodice. By this time, we’d decided to have the wedding in Islamorada and it seemed like too much for the beach.
Another one I liked was from from sister company Jolie.

I really liked this one except for the material. It was polyester and it just felt hot on– I just knew it wouldn’t work for Florida. (I had tried this one on early in the appointment, and then put it on again quickly for the photos, hence the open back.)
So I kept on looking. How did your venue guide your dress selection?

I got married in Vegas so I wanted a fun dress. Mine was a similar style to the Joli dress. I love that style because it makes your waist look extra tiny! And the lace up back cuts down on the need for last minute alterations. Thanks for sharing your pictures!

So smart to wait until you’ve got your venue. I screwed that up the first time
