Yep, that’s right…I am doing the unthinkable…I am planning a destination wedding! In a small village on a hilltop in Tuscany nonetheless. Going through the planning process is going to be many-a-posts, so I will just use this first post to introduce all of you to my wedding location: Artimino, Italy.
In between Florence and Pisa, on the edge of the hills, is the village of Artimino surrounded by medieval walls. Once the country home of the famous Medici family from Florence, there is still a grand castle (Villa Medici dell’Artimino) which was built for Grand Duke Ferdinand I in the late 16th century. This will be the location of our reception dinner and party. We will be married in the Romanesque Church of San Leonardo in the village – completely stone with an old bell tower and stained glass windows.
The countryside of Artimino is so peaceful and has been kept exactly as it was built with no modern buildings in sight. The magnificent Medici castle faces the village across a silvery grove of olive trees and vineyards – they even produce their own olive oil and wine complete with a large “A” on the label, which I like to think stands for my real first name. The view from Artimino makes you realize that all of the films you have seen of Tuscany – no matter how beautiful they were – didn’t even come close to the true beauty of the Tuscan hillside.
The entire village and castle can be rented for weddings, conventions, and events. It is the perfect place for our wedding weekend, where we will fill the entire village with guests from America, Italy, and beyond…

What a beautiful location! I am getting married in Fiesole (near Flornence) next summer. Can I get an idea of what you used for your save the dates or invitations???

For save the dates I sent out magnets with a Tuscan road lined with cypress trees. I figured it would get people excited and be a simple reminder on their refrigerator.
For invitations, I used a vellum overlay with the same scene to gently tie everything together.
I have been to Fiesole many times, and it is absolutely beautiful! The view of Florence is amazing! I am sure you will have an amazing wedding!

Do you have any follow-up comments about the church, village, etc.
We are scheduled to be married there, in the same church, in Sept but have not been there.
Thanks.
