Meet the BridalBuds: Sunflower Bud |
| January 9th, 2009 by BridalBuds |
Hi new friends! I’m so excited to start sharing plans for my upcoming wedding, and learning from everyone’s experiences. At the moment, it appears that I’m the only Canadian Bud! How exciting!
I look forward to conveying my stories of wedding planning from the great white north. Just kidding…Toronto hardly counts as ‘the North’. Anyway, I look forward to hearing from any Canadian readers. Don’t mind my Canadian spelling: colour, favour, honour. I’m sure those words will all come up! I am planning my wedding from home in Toronto, but the wedding will be taking place close to the capital city, Ottawa, about 4 1/2 hours from Toronto. I will certainly have some challenges with planning a wedding outside of the city that I live in, but thank goodness for my helpful family at home.
Sunflower Dude and I have only been engaged about 3 weeks now, but I’m already well into the initial planning. Whoops, I guess it shows that I started planning before the engagement! The big engagement occurred in Toronto’s newly renovated Art Gallery of Ontario, what fun!
Only the gallery didn’t look quite like this, as there was a massive snowstorm on the day we were there, leaving us totally alone in the gallery.
I would consider myself a creative, practical, style savvy bride. The type of wedding I envision is one focused on a fun atmosphere, with a little romance thrown in. I want the guests at my wedding to feel like they know me better when they leave. The main focus of my wedding planning will be DIY projects. You’ll be sure to hear from me about the paper cuts received from doing my own invitations, the storage issue of collecting centerpiece material all year, and all those itty bitty tasks like DIY boutonnieres, veils, bridesmaid gifts, and so on. I never realized how much of a crafter I was until I got engaged: I realized I was more excited about designing invitations than choosing a wedding dress! Am I alone!?

Hello there! I can’t wait to hear all about your plans! I’ve only been to Canada once, to the Wonderland amusement park way back in high school, but I liked it. I know that’s not relevant to wedding planning, but just wanted to break the ice a little, haha.

Just a fun tidbit… My fiance proposed to me last May at the CN Tower… I know it may happen a lot there but it was the first big family trip( I have an 8 year old) we took together… and he asked me and my son to marry him at the way tippy top of the C N Tower… IT was the most romantic and special thing in my life…
I thought I would share with you that. Good luck on your planning. I am getting married this July.

Thanks for the welcome Buds! Deanne, that’s a great story! Where are you from? The CN Tower is a really special building (structure? pointy thing?) that I often take for granted because I see it out my window every day. Sounds like a sweet story, and kind of reminds me of Sleepless in Seattle, the Canadian version.

Welcome to BridalBuds Sunflower Bud! Are there any cultural differences between an American wedding and a Canadian wedding?
January 9th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
Hi Poppy, I guess we’ll have to find out if there are cultural differences, I’ve never been to an American wedding. I think it’ll be similar in that each individual will look to ways to honour their own cultural background above all else. In my case, my family is Dutch, but my Oma insists that there are no Dutch traditions that I need to utilize…I’m going to try anyway. If you notice anything I do that seems particularly ‘Canadian’ I love to hear it!

Yay for Canadian buds! You have at least one Canadian reader here; looking forward to hearing lots about your wedding

Another Canadian reader here too! I’m getting married in rural central Alberta. I’m totally with you – the DIY projects excite me so much! I have to say though, they’re probably tied with getting the dress. Looking forward to hearing all about your planning!!
