Happy Honeymoon!

January 23rd, 2009 by

I admitted to myself today that I’m actually sick. I’m one of those people who will deny that the red nose and voice that sounds like you’re speaking underwater is NOT in fact, sickness, but that you are as healthy as a horse. I also cry when I’m sick. It’s not a pretty combo, hence the lying to myself.

As I sit at work sniffling in the cold Northeast, I want to consume my time looking at pictures of Hawaii. Dahlia Dude and I made the decision this past week to Honeymoon there, with a stop on Kauai (seriously the most beautiful place on earth) and maybe one other place.

Our plans are in flux and depend on a few things:

1. Money. Hawaii has seen some decrease in tourism, but from what we can tell, it’s still expensive. And, it’s the $, so the plunging exchange rates with places like Iceland and Europe do not apply.  Why are honeymoons expensive? I remember being a little girl and thinking it must be free!

2. And, since we’re registering for our honeymoon on Travelersjoy.com we really have to wait awhile to see how much fun money we have. We know we’ll probably go cheap for a few nights, but would like one “Honeymoon” night at a nice place.

3. Vacation time. As a fully employed person (I am SO grateful), I’m not sure that I can ask for 3 full weeks off at one time. I’d need a few days before the wedding, and would really like to be gone for at least 10-12 days after. Hence all three weeks of my vacation time gone at once. That leaves sick days and one floating holiday to do everything else with my life.

4. Flights. One direct flight per day from Chicago to Honolulu. Hawaiian Air and ATA I believe are now out of business, leaving us with either a layover on the west coast, or flying United’s one flight.

Does anyone else know where they are going? How much time did you take?

Pansy Dude and I are staying within the continental U.S to try and cut costs. We’re headed to Nantucket and Cape Cod- and I think we’re planning on going in the off season. My auntie has a cottage (which is seriously not a cottage and like twice the size of my bungalow) right on the cape which we’re staying at, and we’re staying at b&b’s on Nantucket Island. We’re not going right after our wedding because it’s significantly less expensive in the fall.

I went to Jamaica for my honeymoon in the summer time. Since it was Jamaica’s off season, we got some great deals and the resort was nice and empty.

This is definitetly a perfect place for Honeymoon. I really love beaches, it’s very relaxing.
