I like the postcard idea. Friends of ours had a "destination" wedding in Des Moines, where her grandparents lievd. He was from California and she was from Chicago, so most everyone but some of her family had to travel. They sent out a funny post-card save-the-date of cornfields. On the back, it was customized with "Top 10 fun facts about Des Moines" and number 10 was "Jack and Jill are getting married there on October 15" (names and dates have been changed). They had silly facts like there are more households there without TVs than anywhere else in the country, etc. It was a cute idea. I love your idea of also customizing the front of the postcard, but a top 10 (or 5) list of fun things to do or factoids is also a nice way to customize the back and present your info.

We are sending save the dates, even though the more I read, the more I'm learning that I don't really need to send them, etiquette wise. In my case, I just love designing cards. Dude and I came up with the design together (which surprised me that he wanted to help) and I'll be making them at home for only $1.50 a card including postage. I'll definitely post it when ready!
